What I am trying to do is have three cabs with a variety of speakers! My Bogner has V30s and I think I am doing a Lynchback/Creamback mix in my Stone Age. They should mix well!

Now, for my 412, since I use 50 watt heads, I was thinking 25 watt speakers but they must also handle hard rock! Think anything from punk to rock to hard rock, as heavy as Tool, Alice in Chains and Metallica. I also want light magnets, 35oz, to keep weight down! I could do Lynchbacks and Creambacks or Creambacks and G12-65, but now I am thinking EVH Greenbacks! I hear they can handle hard rock well! G12-65s are a bit too dark.

If weight matters the century vintage will do a great job.

Sorry, I did not like the Century speakers one bit. I am looking for 35oz magnets.

Choices are Celestion EVH Greenbacks, G12-65s, Creambacks, or Lynchbacks. Also will look at WGS Green Berets.

Given what you already have I would do the Greenbacks. Dont rule out Scumback M75's. He makes a 25 watt version that sounds fantastic...

I'd mix a pair in an X pattern. If the 65's are too dark maybe mix them with something that's a little bright.

Regular old Greenbacks (G12M) will do the trick. They handle hard rock and even modern metal quite well as long as you keep the power down. If you're using 50 watt amps, you'll be fine.

I use Greenbacks with my Diezel VH4 and Ceriatone Chupacabra and they're awesome. I also have a 4x12 with G12-65's that rocks. But the 65's need to be turned up super loud to sound good. But by good, I mean incredibly fanfuckingtastic. :)

My rec. would be normal G12Ms.

Here's a clip of 'em with my Chupa:

Greenbacks!

I am thinking the same thing!

Bogner 212 - V30s (I find V30s sound best turned up loud, but I prefer to have one cab with V30s because my Bogner and PWE are amazing with V30s)
Stone Age 212 - Creamback/Lynchback
Splawn 412 - Greenbacks, Green Berets or EVH Greenbacks.

Either way, the Greenbacks or whichever must be able to handle hard rock without flubbing out.

Thanks guys! Maybe I can find some used Scumback M75 25 watters. I used Scumbacks before and preferred Celestions but am willing to give another go.

Celestion emailed me and said be careful with Greenbacks - G12M and don't go heavier than classic hard rock like ACDC.

FourT6and2, what do you mean when you say G12M? Regular Greenbacks or Heritage Greenbacks??? One other note is the EVH Greenbacks which are relabeled Heritage Greenbacks! Nice clip man, are they the regular and cheaper G12Ms?

Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!! :)

Ignore what Celestion said. Greenbacks (G12M) have been used for decades for all sorts of musical styles. They are synonymous with rock. And not just AC/DC rock. Look at the Framus Cobra cab. Guess what? Greenbacks. And that's a modern metal high-gain amp similar to the SLO or Dual Rectifier.

Adam Jones' Marshall 4x12 has Greenbacks in it.

The clip I posted is with regular reissue (Chinese) G12M Greenback 25 watt speakers. With 50 watt amps, you'll be fine with a quad of 25 watt speakers. The general rule of thumb is your speaker load should be twice what the amp puts out.

Thanks! So why the regular Greenbacks over the Heritage or EVH?

How about the WGS Green Berets?

If that's true, how are guys running 100 watt amps with v30's?

How about the WGS Green Berets?

I've never tried WGS speakers so I can't comment on those.

Regular reissue (Chinese) or Heritage are fine. Never tried EVH versions, so I can't comment on those. I have reissues because that's just what came in my Bogner 4x12. I've since swapped them out for G12-65s and I like those just as much. :) It would be nice to A/B the Heritage vs. Reissue vs. whatever. But I've never had the opportunity.

There have been MANY "Greenbacks" over the years.

They are all the same G12M-25 speaker, just slight variations.

1964-1973 - "Greenback" = Pulsonic Cone
1974 - "Creamback" = RIC Cone
1975 - ? "Blackback" = 1777 Cone
Reissue Greenbacks
Heritage Greenbacks
Reissue Creambacks
EVH Greenbacks
Lynchbacks
etc. etc. etc.

Then there are the clones from WGS, Scumback, Weber, etc.

V30 is a 60 watt speaker. A quad of them is 240 watts. :) And you can certainly run a 100 watter with a quad of Greenbacks. But you will blow the speakers eventually if you run the amp full-tilt all the time. For example, my Diezel is 100 watts. But at real stage-volume it's putting out something closer to 130+ watts. With a good amount of low-end and gain, you'll blow 25 watt speakers.

I use a quad of 25 watt greenbacks all the time with old 100 watt Marshalls, a 101b, and a SLO-100, and have never blown a speaker. I play pretty loud in a live setting too. Just keep in mind, you're rarely (probably) running your amp at full tilt.

a 4x12 full of greenbacks and a 100 watt superlead or JMP is a beautiful thing.

The century is a way dfferent speaker than the century vintage. YMMV but for me it is the better V30.

Actually that formula works perfectly with a 100 watt head and V30s which are 60 watts!

Lynchbacks (don't really have Greenback mids, mids are more neutral)
Creambacks
etc. etc. etc.

Speaker wiring/watts. It hurts my head.

Excuse me did someone say they wanted a Creamback?
