I may be selling some rack gear soon. Need a good shipping box that can handle a 2U rack tube power amp that weighs about 42 lbs.

I found some places that have double and triple layer boxes, good to 100+ lbs, but you gotta buy in bulk, they don't sell individual boxes.

I just need one standard rack box ,for 3U-4U, rated for at least 80 lbs so the amp has a chance of arriving in the same condition I packed it.

Any pointers appreciated.

I just save all the boxes from the crap my wife is constantly buying from Amazon.

Walmart has heavy duty boxes for like $4. I slip two together end to end one inside the other for amps and have shipped many amps up to 60 +lbs. Wrap in heavy duty bubble wrap, use those Walmart boxes with some xtra packing or cardboard on the inside walls of the box...will survive a soccer match between FedEx/UPS.

Thanks; haven't tried Wal-Mart or U-Haul. The local shipping stores don't have much variety.

Reverb is selling boxes now. You can order from Uline or hit up some local companies. I'm always breaking down nice heavy duty boxes for recycling at my job. Also Lowes/Home Depot sells moving boxes.

Go to your local GC and dumpster dive. Or have some staff tell you when they unpack deliveries. I was in one a few weeks ago and they had to have 50 really nice guitar boxes on the floor, double boxes, all the foam, everything. All were going into the trash.

Home Depot sells moving boxes you can buy regular and heavy duty I've used the heavy duty a ton of times and never had a problem and they're not that expensive just use plenty of bubble wrap and pack it tight.
