Ok, so how is pausing our browsing history going to help? I get the feeling that it has no real effect. The info is there if they want it.

Pause only worked up until now and this week. According to Goober Gobbler, next week, everything is recorded, retrieved, used, disseminated for their benefit, big brother, etc. Just imagine when the hackers get hold of Goober's data base of information.

Thanks for the heads up. Was shocked at what was stored on there; definitely would have caught it from the wife.

+100 :D

Apparently fluff191 watches 100x as much online porn as Steinmetzify. :D

If you are going to look at things online that you don't want your spouse to know about, always put your browser in 'Private Browsing' mode (or whatever your particular browser calls it) first.

Just a friendly tip from your uncle shredi.

I did the pause thing with Google and saw it had info stored at least as far back as 2010. :D

Would people here suggest trying to totally delete youtube and google accounts?

Also, is there a privacy surfing setting for IE?

Thanks!

I like to keep the government as fucked up as I can by changing emails often :)

Truth be known, your data can be mined in many places. But, Google is the first to cave in to Big Brother. There are certainly better alternatives out there.

Thanks For That! I just got in under the wire... I'm usually up on this stuff being a SW engineer, but I totally missed this one!

I'm officially abandoning everything Google, using Yahoo! for searching and iCloud for email. It's too bad because they had a pretty good thing going for awhile. It seems like they're taking a page out of Facebook's handbook and are coming to the realization that the material people search for is priceless. It's going to be a pain in the ass moving everything over and telling the students I'm using a new email because they don't listen. :gethim:

Even if you delete your accounts, what's done is done and everything you've ever searched can be traced back to your IP address easily. Hopefully nobody here is into anything too freaky;)

That's a pretty good point. No matter what information is deleted by the user, it has got to be stored in their databases already.

I am of a different opinion than almost everyone here. I don't do anythign shady, and I don't care if search results, and banner ads are more targeted to me. I actually found two usefull things from the gmail banner ads that were tailored to what I was searching. I keep a second web browser installed on my computer that I use for banking, and paypal, and nothing else with all the security options enabled, but the rest of it I just think about what I am doing, and emailing. I never email important info except from my work email account, and I use private browsing when I want things out of my internet history.

My opinion is if they are looking for people involved in stuff they shouldn't be they will look for people who are trying to hide, and personally I don't mind having some stuff tracked about me if it makes it easier for the police to catch hackers, and child pornographers. It is like everything else in life there is a balance between personal freedom, and safety.

With that being said I am glad to see this making the news because everyone needs to be more aware of internet security. I am personally a big google user. I have a gmail account, use chrome because it is the most secure browser, and I have an android phone. I am also thinking about trying google + instead of facebook because they don't keep changing your privacy settings, and allow games access to all your info, and email your friends. I think that Facebook is a bigger privacy threat than this new google privacy policy.

I am not so sure this is just about marketing.

Seeing as ads are google's primary source of revenue I think it is all about marketing. What else would it be about?? As I said I don't care if they track what I search.

What about searches whirling not logged in? I don't I've ever searched logged in...
Android?

Traceable to IP regardless.

I've been watching this unfold...it's all about the NWO and especially this most recent (generationally speaking, of course) explosion and adoption of web based lifestyle and "everything". Hellfire we get our news, stocks, forums, porn, banking, bills, conversations, everything via the NET nowadays. I say "nowadays" as this has really only come to pass in the last 15 years with fervor, although the WWW and email have been around much longer.

You're going to get tagged, just like you get tagged going through an international airport within the USofA, and several other countries. They watch for a baseball cap, they do a facial recognition profile search, see where you've been for the last couple years, what business you're into, where you've been, friends, everything. If there's a blip on the radar, they check you out. I'm guessing this is exactly what Google, being US based, is collaborating with the varied factions of the US administration for - intel.

They will say it's for such things as child porn and these otherwise contemptuous behaviours, but it's more strictly intel - who's searching bomb making, drug refinement and lab exercises, any Islamist information and searches, large monetary transactions, and "subversive" culture communications - radical mentality, socialist tendencies, etc. This is my guess.

Damn, I think I am too late for this. I only get the "No Thanks" and "Turn Web History On" selections.

I use another email address for my personal stuff, but I still have a heap of contacts in my Gmail account. Also it's tied to my Youtube account, and I don't want to shut that down. I started a work email address over a year ago in Google so I hope that private data is not tapped. Fuck I hate Google now....
