WOW, Holy fucking shit, ballsack explosion and all that stuff!

This thing is AMAZING! I have been through a ton of high end pedals in the last few years and this one makes every single one of them sound and feel like cheap toys. Also, I've played every XTC with the exception of the classic and had a 101B around the house for a bit and this thing nails it!

I'm playing it through the clean channel of my Mark IV which I set up nice and neutral with no gain at all and it's just heavenly. Tried it on RHY 2 with a touch of grit thinking it would be cool....meh. I mean it's alright, but it just sounds like a boosted RHY2 which is nothing special.
Through a properly set up clean channel however, this thing turns into the Bogner Ecstasy. It's simply amazing that a pedal can do this. Don't know how, but Reinhold stepped up the voltage internally, even though it runs on a standard 9V battery. Crazy cool.
The switches all respond in a way that is similar to the real amps. I'll try to get a clip up sometime soon. Bottom line is that it lives up to the hype.

So.....do you like it?

Congrats Bro!!

I am not surprised you don't like it much boosting r2. I will say that I do like boosting r2 with a Tubescreamer though. So how different does the red sound compared to the lad channel on the mark IV?

The red is in my sites, but I am leaning toward a kingsley jouster. It will be 4 months or so till I get anything.

I totally concur!

I love my Red into my Lonestar clean...killer. In fact, I like this setup better than I like my Bogner's actual red channel.

I understand. I may like this more than the Mark's lead channel...

Yeah, I think these pedals really need a CLEAN channel to shine. When I introduced too much grit on the clean or used the RHY 2 dirt, it took away the amp-like character of the pedal.

Compared to the Mark IV's lead channel, the Bog Red sounds, well, like an XTC lead channel. It's got that Bogner "chew" that everyone talks about and that addictive bounce and stickiness between notes. It's like syrupy sweet goodness, or you can change the switches around and go into 20th mode for a harder feel and more upper mid kerrang. Like a nice modded Marshall meets Bogner.

I fell in love with the IV's lead channel when I played my buddy's a few years back so I jumped at the chance to trade for one. The clean is good and the lead ch is really the only reason I keep the amp around. But this is making me wonder if I really need it. I know it's the honeymoon still but I like the Red more than the IV's lead right now. It just sounds more alive and juicy and it's more fun to play.

Thanks for the detail. I have no experience with bogner amps, but I kind of know what you mean. Is there anything you don't like about the bogner red?

So the verdict is that these do not jive well with a loud crunchy amp ala Plexi??? I was pretty close to pulling the trigger on the Red......but I wasn't planning on using it into a pure clean amp. Maybe I'll hold off

They still sound great but IMO better into a clean amp. I bet the Blue would sound awesome with some amp grit. With the higher internal voltage, these pedals respond and sound much more like actual amps than a standard pedal. They just work so well with a totally clean amp.

Since the Red pedal makes a clean channel sound like a dirt channel I got the idea to hit the Red pedal just like any other amp "channel." I hit it with my Koko Boost...'sounds awesome for that over the top sound.

I love mine!

Glad you said that about the 20th mode being a bit stiffer though, I thought the same. Despite it having more gain to the ear, under the fingers the 101 and 100 modes feel more like the XTC I used to own - bouncy. The 20th mode is a bit harder playing but really rocks for more aggressive rock rhythm tones.

Is the 20th XTC actually like this?

Yes, the 20th is tighter, more open and has more kerrang and cut. It's more honest and will show your mistakes more. Of course, you can use the excursion mode to loosen it up if you prefer...

Yes, the 20th feels the same to me. The 100 is still my favorite of the XTC amps, but I love the 20th for other reasons. I need to spend more time with the 20th to really fairly judge it. Just jammed it in a shop for awhile. But yeah, it had that stiffer/harder feel for sure.

I hit mine already with the BB+ and it was awesome! Takes a boost just like a real amp.

Sweet board! If I remember correctly, you're running two Reds because of a volume jump issue with the boost on the blue, right? What's the deal there? With the Red being so awesome, naturally I'm gassing for the blue now...

It didn't knock my Soldano GTO off the floor...but what happened to my TC Nova Drive?
