Hey Rig-Talkers!

I was sent a Peavey 6505 1992 Original to check out and review so I thought I'd drop some notes here too. It's not my first Peavey, in fact I own a previous generation MIC 6505 that I love, an Invective 120 as well as 2 MH's (6505 and Invective). I haven't compared the 1992 Original to my other 6505 yet but I'll get to that soon. So I can't really comment on that really. I think I'm noticing a little bit of a difference though, as if the dynamics of the power amp are slightly less stiff on this newer one. I guess the comparison will make things more clear though...

I like the updated looks a lot and the variable voltage is pretty cool too! I'm not aware of other amps that do this tbh. The detachable power cable is alright but not a huge upgrade obviously. But the 6505 logo behind the front grille definitely looks cool and more like the "OG" block letter.

The rhythm channel is pretty cool and especially for gainier tones quite underrated. You can get some great rock tones out of this channel! The lead channel has a LOT of gain on tap, probably a bit more than my previous gen. 6505. It sounds awesome! If you like 6505s you'll dig this amp! Of course here's a little review and demo with some tones and raw dialing in near the end too:

Thanks for the showcase, the amp sounds good!

I'm looking forward to your comparison video between this and the previous version as well.

Honestly the biggest thing I am curious about was mentioned in an earlier video by Kyle Bull, that Peavey has said they’ve implemented some kind of change to fix the problem of the power tube heater wires burning up the ribbon connectors on the main and power amp board. I’ve had this happen on two different Peavey amps.

I probably have to junk my old 6505 (a chinese one I got for cheap used a few years ago) because this happened and seems to have caused a bunch of other problems in the amp that I can’t figure out. I’ve replaced components, bypassed the ribbon connectors, a number of things and it’s just all kinds of screwed up. After talking to a tech I’ve used before it just doesn’t seem worth it to shell out potentially more than I paid for the thing to maybe or maybe not have it fixed and working reliably.

If these new ones have really fixed this somehow I would be much more inclined to get one.

I agree with this. I want to see gut shots of the new 1992 to see what they’ve done, if anything.

I have a USA 6505II (first year 6505 logo) and I’ve never personally had an issue with the ribbon cables but it is quite common. Another problem I hope they’ve fixed which mine does experience is the 7 pin DIN connector for the footswitch is janky af. In the past I had to wiggle it to get the footswitch to come alive and after chugging on the amp at band levels lose the footswitch connection which then changed channels on me inadvertently. I swore I was going to rip it out and put a locking DIN connector on it and the footswitch cable but never did.
