I have been wanting a Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s in Iced Tea for months but had other things keep coming up like the JJ Jr. release, needing a vocal mic, blah, blah, blah. I kept kind of pushing the purchase back because I didn't want to buy a bunch of stuff all at one time. I also kind of liked that feeling from the past of being excited about a piece of gear.
Right off the bat, just have to say that definitely the best Les Paul I've ever owned. I have owned a 2008 Les Paul Standard, had a 1981 Les Paul Custom, 93' Les Paul Studio, and currently have a 2013 Les Paul Classic (that I thought was a Standard). Definitely smokes most of those guitars on several levels.
I'm not sure what everyone else's experiences have been with Les Pauls but for me, I would always love the lower frets. Unfortunately as I would move up the fretboard, just seemed like notes would be slightly sharp or flat in spots and would have a "clunk" sound as I was hitting spots. Doesn't exist with this guitar. Doing scales past the 12th fret is a blast and sounds and feels so fluid. Never had that with any of my guitars unfortunately. I know it has a lot to do with the Plek machine they are using now with every Standard and I love it!
I dig the pickups too! Didn't think I would but they have a great balance to them and work great. I have Motor City 2nd Degree Blackbelts in my other Les Paul and these sound nearly as good as those. The new volume and tone pot thing is great. I love how when I turn down the knob, everything still sounds the same just lower. Across the whole guitar I just love how I'm not getting all of these irritating noises I used to get whether "pings", "clanks", scratchiness, etc. The guitar just sounds and feels solid. I'm really impressed with this.
I traded in an SG I had, had a Guitar Center coupon, and a 15% trade in. I walked out with the guitar at around $1000. Great deal for this guitar and really enjoying it! The guitar was recently built (within weeks according to what the salesman saw on the tag" and you could tell. The shiny coating smelled so strong that it was like a bottle of whiskey! I have had to air it out today. LOL
