I have been wanting a Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s in Iced Tea for months but had other things keep coming up like the JJ Jr. release, needing a vocal mic, blah, blah, blah. I kept kind of pushing the purchase back because I didn't want to buy a bunch of stuff all at one time. I also kind of liked that feeling from the past of being excited about a piece of gear. :)

Right off the bat, just have to say that definitely the best Les Paul I've ever owned. I have owned a 2008 Les Paul Standard, had a 1981 Les Paul Custom, 93' Les Paul Studio, and currently have a 2013 Les Paul Classic (that I thought was a Standard). Definitely smokes most of those guitars on several levels.

I'm not sure what everyone else's experiences have been with Les Pauls but for me, I would always love the lower frets. Unfortunately as I would move up the fretboard, just seemed like notes would be slightly sharp or flat in spots and would have a "clunk" sound as I was hitting spots. Doesn't exist with this guitar. Doing scales past the 12th fret is a blast and sounds and feels so fluid. Never had that with any of my guitars unfortunately. I know it has a lot to do with the Plek machine they are using now with every Standard and I love it!

I dig the pickups too! Didn't think I would but they have a great balance to them and work great. I have Motor City 2nd Degree Blackbelts in my other Les Paul and these sound nearly as good as those. The new volume and tone pot thing is great. I love how when I turn down the knob, everything still sounds the same just lower. Across the whole guitar I just love how I'm not getting all of these irritating noises I used to get whether "pings", "clanks", scratchiness, etc. The guitar just sounds and feels solid. I'm really impressed with this.

I traded in an SG I had, had a Guitar Center coupon, and a 15% trade in. I walked out with the guitar at around $1000. Great deal for this guitar and really enjoying it! The guitar was recently built (within weeks according to what the salesman saw on the tag" and you could tell. The shiny coating smelled so strong that it was like a bottle of whiskey! I have had to air it out today. LOL

Can we see it? ? I want the exact same baaaaaad, and an SG Modern in Black Fade.

Oh yeah, I do need to get a pic up! :D I haven't uploaded a pic in awhile. I'll try to get a shot of it. :)

Here are a few pics. If you look at the first and second pics, it looks like two separate guitars. Crazy how the light makes it look like a cherryburst and then out of the light it is iced tea.

Good looking axe. Congrats

Thanks man! Yeah, this thing fits like a glove. For Les Paul owners, this is definitely a great snag! The craziest part is that it is hundreds of dollars lower than what LPs were previously selling for.

Love a nice Les Paul. I noticed on GCs website that the 15% doesn’t qualify for a lot of items, including Gibson. Did your sales guy make an exception? I want to get a Bogner or Friedman but they are excluded too. Hmmm...

Nice guitar. Glad Gibson is on their long trail of regaining their reputation.

Do the new standards have compound radius fretboards?

Thanks everyone! Skoora, it doesn't mention anything about that in the specs. Says it is around a 12" but doesn't go into any additional detal.

Motorboy1, not sure about all of the details with the 15% thing. It was for the trade-in and I know is normally 10% but for some weekend was 15%. So basically if your trade-in goes towards buying something in the store versus getting cash, I guess you get that extra amount.

It was making my brain swirl when he was going over everything. I was like "just give me the dang guitar". LOL
