Got my amp back from the tech today and...

I thought monsta-tone is in Silver City, New Mexico

Andy is a great tech and a great guy. If I didn't roll my own, I would send my amps to him or Jerry Dyer...

He was, but then he moved to Washington, then down to Hawaii.

Monsta Tone is good, I may be sending my mark iv to him for some things.


but why not call Mesa and get a quote from them??

Because Mesa said it is the normal noise this amp makes, and I call B/S on their part... I bet they just want to work on newer amps, and not "waste" their time with this older amp.

lame....well go over to the boogie board or visit his website and hit up monsta tone, he IS in fact in hawaii currently, but he's a good guy and has decent prices.
plus the fact he is a mesa authorized tech makes me feel better than just handing it over to anyone.

Thats the thing, The tech's I just took my amp to where Mesa authorized... I had a few mods I wanted done to my amp, and I was gonna buy them from him, so if I do end up sending it to him, I can get some mods done to it while it is there

This sounds similar to what was wrong with my amp, it turned out to be a couple of bad resistors. These amps aren't the easiest to work on and it took me awhile to figure out what the problem was. Luckily I was able to fix it myself. The guys on the boogie board are a huge help, I would rely on them for advice. Find it hard to believe mesa won't look at it. You might want to try again and just send it to them and be done with it. They will fix it right, be persistent and talk to the right person.

I am going to start working on it again myself. I was talking to monsta-tone, and he said hum in the .50 cal's are usually caused by the orange drop capacitors. I am going to check all of those caps, and see if any of them are bad then replace a few of them.
