man I love this pickup!!!!! Also known as my "YJM Furry pickup in white"  ... Man this thing has some serious output and tone. I can switch from my humbucker guitar with a Duncan Distortion to my strat with this pickup and not change the dials. But the sound is very different. It's still got that clean sound to it and just a bit of that clang - but not enough to be ice picky - which was what I didn't like about the HS-3. To me it diffinitely has what I did like about the HS-3, doesn't have the things I was fighting with, and the sound is just bigger. Me likey - thanks Ant for the suggestion!

Nice! I've been curious on how it sounds compared to the Dimarzios...

is that the new SD pickup that is out?

Yeah, but don't call them and ask for the "YJM Furry"... it's "Fury, not Furry"

You thought the HS-3 was ice picky? It's a dark pickup, far from ice picky IMO.

yeah, I agree it was dark, but at the same time it was maybe "spikey" is a better word - when my amp was really loud and you stand back a ways certain notes would kinda take your head off - maybe not necessarily high end, but something... This pickup doesn't do that at all.

Cool thanks for the review. I need to drop a set of high-output, noiseless single coils in a strat for playing Queen tribute gigs...can't have the hum going on all night.
I think I remember Anthony saying something about these are the single coils for guys that are used to double coils...and single coil players won't like them.

Agreed.

I have an 80's HS-3 and it sounds killer.

Now I have to try this YJM FURRY pickup

My HS-3 is a newer one - of course I hear the new ones aren't as good as the old ones. So the Fury is good now, because there isn't an old one, but after a while, mine will be really good and the new ones will suck

It's a pretty comfortable feeling pickup. I didn't mind playing the HS-3, just in the guitar I had I couldn't get the tone dialed in - I was missing some of the smoother mids it seems like I hear in Yngwie's tone. And of course I'm totally talking about the bridge only, I only play the bridge. I'll make a clip later - gonna crank the plexi... no attenution... it's gonna be loud

but I don't think he's even recorded anything with the Furry yet so how could you not get the smoother mids that he couldn't have had yet?

I was saying the things I heard in his tone, I wasn't getting out of the hs-3. I know he was using an hs-3, but there are too many variables like the amp and guitar and fingers and pedals - that I didn't feel I was getting close to his sound. With this pickup, the sound with my gear, sounds more like what I percieved his sound to be... or course now his sound will now probably be different with his new pickup, we'll have to wait until a recording comes out, but who cares, I just like what I have now :D
