Got Our Initial Full Length Mix Back....

My band has put out two EP's in the last 2 years. We did both with professional producers, one being a pretty well known guy in the hardcore and metal community. We weren't really happy with how either came out. They sound good, and professional, but really failed to capture "our sound"

We recently recorded a 9 song full length, and went with a completely new guy to do it from front to back. Tracking, mixing, mastering. We got our first mix back today, and damn. It sounds like how we'd always wanted it to sound.

Guitars a thick and saturated, yet clear, bass fills in a lot of the low end, but isn't overpowering. Drums are the hardest to get right, and he nailed them. The drums are samples taken from our drummers kit that he recorded with, so it is real drums and not samples used from a library.

Anyways, take a listen and let me know what you think! See if you can guess what amps may have been used for guitars. There were 3 total.

Very cool. I haven't listened to this type of metal in a long while. Your mix reminds of 90s Obituary. And I mean that as a compliment.

Killer tune and production! Great guitar tone, and your riffs really let it breathe. The vocals are fucking badass, and remind me a little of the late, great Brett Hoffman. I’ll buy this when it’s available, hit me up. :rock:

Right and partially right! Lol

My side had a 5150 III 50 and a Splawn Pro Stock

My other guitarists side had a Splawn Quick Rod and a Ceriatone Chup 50, but I believe they chose to not use the Chup after recording so it dialed out.

Sounds awesome. I dig the song and the production sounds great.

In terms of amps, first thought that came to mind was 5150.

Edit: I actually thought Peavey 5150, but, still close :lol: :LOL:
 
Just now getting a chance to check this out. Production and mixing is pretty amazing. Tone is stellar man. Thick thick guitars. Good job and good luck :yes:

Were you guys using boosts on the Splawns or the EVH 5153? Anything else in the signal path.

Side question if you are bored and want to kill my curiosity. So the drummer does what? He lays down different patterns and fills and they get cut up separately and then the mixer pulls what he needs for the parts? Is that pretty common these days? Sorry for such a noob question.

Glad everyone here digs it. poste don another forum and got a lot of replies saying the guitar tone was thin/tinny and too out front.

I almost feel the guitars are a litttllleeee too out front as well, and it kinda buries the vocals, but overall, I don't think they sound thin by any means. Maybe bright would be a better description? I also don't believe that forum is used to hearing bands in E Standard tuning, for what that may be worth.
 
The guitars are present. I wouldn't call them thin. And the levels with the vocals is about right for this style of music.

Thin and tinny? Too out front? Nonsense. The guitars are thick, present, and sit perfectly in the mix. Guitars are supposed to be up front in this music. I also dig that the vocals blend with everything instead of dominating the mix. I wouldn’t change a thing. :rock:

Great track. Great songwriting. The mix sounds great. Definitely refreshing to hear E standard in modern metal.
 
would you be able to hook me up with the guy that did that mix? im looking for somebody that can do a metal mix, preferably not super expensive :rock:
 
Dude that sounds incredible! Love everything about that track. I also super appreciate some good growls too. Often it's the vocalist in a band who kills it for me but this bro rips.
 
Cool stuff, production and tones sound fantastic as well.
