Got to try a bunch of gear, why didn't I like the SLO?

That may be very likely actually. The amp only has a clean and a crunch. Are there different models or a hidden switch on the back or something?

The clean/crunch were just 2 different modes on the 1st channel. You can't switch between channel 1 and 2 without a footswitch.

However if there's no footswitch plugged in, SLO usually stays on the 2nd channel.

Yeah the FS was there and I tried both channels and messed with the settings a little.

Will give it another shot and will see if I can crank it up. Maybe his has some weak tubes or something as well idk.

And, for the tone's sake, PLEASE try a different cab without M70s. Last time I played M70s I puked.

The SLO needs to be run loud... very loud. 5 (aka 12:00) on the volume. The Rockcrusher is a tone sucker. Definitely not a home volume amp.

Also Lasse likes to use EMGs and od boost pedals... so make sure you are making an apples to apples comparison.

-and with all the new tech out there I thought the ROCK CRUSHER would be on par with the new school attenuator's like the ARACOM, which is what I believe to be the best available, except the ROCK CRUSHER has a ton of features, tried one, total piece of shit, re-branded old school tech, .....PFFFFFFFFFF,.... ROCK CRUSHER ..... more like TONE CRUSHER!!!... take the training wheels & baby blanket off the SLO, pair it up with a greenback cab,

Just a little update. Got to dig into it again and racer with the first reply was right.

This time I played it through the Rivera with V30 x 75 and it was a different animal. I noticed the difference right away and it sounded awesome. Didn't get to crank it super loud but it sounded good.

I still think I'd have to use a boost with one. It wasn't a lack of gain per se but it needed that little kick in the ass and anything past 2:00 on the gain became too saturated for me.

TL;DR with the right cab and setup the SLO kicks ass and I now see what everyone raves on about.

I never liked the SLO either anytime I've tried it.

Me either!!!
Yeah, not everyone digs everything others like. I was thinking of trying a recto again, my first one lasted about a week 8 yrs ago. Well, I tried an early(Rev D I believe) and it sucked ass, mushiest POS I've ever played through. Tried boosts, through 2 different V30 cabs. You can have them LOL. Ugh. I love my 2C+, but I've read others say they like Mark 3s better or as much. No friggin way. That's a comparison I don't get. I've had 2 Mark 3s and they were very stale and bland compared to the C+. Just no comparison IMO.

I can understand why some guys wouldn't like the SLO. She's a bit of a prima donna. She's super picky about speakers, preamp tubes, and anything in the loop.

I also did not love the SLO and I did crank it .... Even with a boost the lowend was too sluggish for me on the lead channel, now with that being said I spent most of my time there and not much time with the crunch channel . Keep in mind I play mostly modern metal/thrash and thought the Soldano Avenger I owned with a boost did that sort of thing way better than the SLO.

I owned an Avenger. I'd grab it before a SLO for modern metal/thrash stuff every time. The SLO is more suited for rock stuff, imho. Isn't it great have choices?

I always wanted a SLO. But I know the type of music we play. 80 percent modern thrash. We do classic rock. But rather have a modern gain amp then just roll the gain back for rock. The Avenger sounds interesting :D

The only guys I've heard who liked a Mark iii as much or better than a iic+ have never heard them side by side. The iic+ sounds better in pretty much every way to my ears and I also disagree with those who say the Mark iii is more aggressive. If anything, the iic+ is and it has a more complete growl on powerchord than the mark iii's. That being said, I'd still take a mark iii over the majority of high gainers out there

I still also maintain that most of you guys would probably not be as impressed with the SLO if you heard it side by side with something like a wizard MTL, atomica or gower. The SLO was one of my favorites until I got a wizard

I've also heard people say the rev D sounds mushy. I've only tried a rev F and thought it sounded really great, but would still never play it over my iic+. It sounded great, but I felt my iic+ beat it in every way when AB'ed

Ive had many chances of getting an SLO.

For me its one of those amps that i was thinking about buying based on what others had said about it and not because i wanted it.

I haven't had a 100w Wiz, just a MTL 50. But I can tell it has the same bloom if you will at volume, as an SLO, in that it sounds killer then gets Fn glorious the louder it gets. SLO does the same thing. I'd love to have both next to one another...with an A/B box...and start turning each up. Wiz MC/MTL 100 with an SLO...now THAT would be fun.

I definitely feel the SLO has enough gain on tap for death metal stuff even but it needs to be loud. Also a lot of amps sound OKish when not in a mix but sound great once in a mix. The rectifiers are a great example of this. They sound kind of fizzy alone but in mix the fizz vanishes and works nicely.

Here's a Soldano Avenger 100 into a regular Marshall 1960B cab with Celestion G12T-75's.
Plenty of gain and articulation.
Guitar is an ESP Viper (Urban Camo) with EMG 57

Fucking bullshit thread man. What kind of guy supposedly goes out and plays some lower tier shit like a Les Paul studio and a Fender that like 4 people like the shape of, allegedly tries a $4000 amp, then says some ratty old solid state Ampeg from the 90's blows away an SLO? Hell, if I had a piece of shit Ampeg, I'd fucking give it to you free... but I couldn't guarantee that I wouldn't piss on it first.

"I left saying wow I'd take the cheap VH140C over a SLO any day of the week." Who the fuck says shit like that?

Fucking stupid comparison

A guy who comes on here asking what he did wrong, then tries it again based on the replies, and posts this....

That's who says shit like that. Luckily some people actually read his post and offered some advice.

Side note...I think the SLO is bar none the best amp of all time, but if you like the things the VH140C does, it's not that crazy to prefer it. It's pretty much the benchmark for early '90s death metal, and the clean channel rivals the JC-120 (I prefer it personally).

Once again you must crank it and then it fills out and gives you the chunk that doesnt happen at lower volumes. It shines in a band mix
