Still a great amp and always will be, especially for the price. Tone wise I like my early 100w a little more than my 50w. The 3 totally separate channels of the 100w coupled with the fact it still sounds excellent at low volumes makes the 100w a better choice IMO. But either way the EVH line of amps are, dare I say, iconic amps. You really can't go wrong either way.

Spend some time on channel 2, I feel this is where the amp shines. Boost it if needed. Many don't talk about how versatile the amp is. I've seen guitarist from jazz to country to pop rock to metal use it and they all sounded great.

Thx Nevu, Ive seen country guys use it as well and it worked...how do you compensate for the volume jump on green and blue?

I own the 50w and the Stealth. I had the 100 watt standard but sold it when I got the Stealth.

The 50 watt is awesome. At gig volume there is really not much of an issue with the shared eq on channels 1 and 2. I love channel 2 on the 50 watt. The blue channel on the 100 watt does not have hair but the 50 watt has it in spades. I boosted the 100 watt blue channel and got the sounds I wanted but the 50 watt needs no boost. Its got gain in spades.

For the price ( especially if you score a used one) I cannot think of a better amp for the kind of music I like.

I use a Musicom EFX midi pedal looper/controller and a Boss GE-7 in the loop set with a little volume boost that automatically enters the chain when I click on my clean patch.

Still love my 5153 50 watt. The blue channel is amazing with boost and a little delay. Tone for days

What cabs are you guys running it with? I had to sell my 1936 to fund it so I have left and orange 1x12 with a vintage 30 and that's going to be it til I leave this apt...mystic how do you like the MM guitars..I have 2 silo specials, one with a transition in the bridge and and older USA sub1..

I really like my Mesa 4x12 w/ V30's with the 100w. It also makes the 50w sound thick but I normally use the matching EVH 2x12 with it. 99% of EVH owners will tell you the matching EVH cabs sound the best.

It's a killer setup for sure.. I miss mine and the blue channel is actually pretty cool.

Voodoo amps just put out a new mod that gives it three seperate channels. Check it out.

Love mine & gig it on a regular basis. Like others have mentioned the volume drop isn't bad at stage volume and with the gain above 12 to 1 o'clock. I use a Nova System with mine and can compensate for the volume issue that way also. Cabinet wise I'm in the minority here. I like mine better with Mesa cabs w/vintage 30's vs the EVH cabs. Small stages I use two 1x12 recto cabs, larger stages 4x12 recto. Sounds great either way.

I absolutely love music man guitars. I sold a few suhrs to get the ones I have. They play, sound and look fantastic!!!

Can't say enough good things about these guitars.

Nope, it was only a good amp when it first came out. It's gotten worse over the last year or so.

:D

Yes, still a great amp.

I stopped by my local gc, who had a brand spanknig new one with a 212 matching cab.....love, love that amp. So tight and waxy.

This thread really ain't helping my gas for a 5153 mini.

I have the matching 4x12 and 2x12. I prefer the 4x12. Also sounds great with my Mesa 2x12

well Im grabbing it tomorrow, really psyched to join the club even though Im really late!...I looked into the mod at voodoo and its 240 bucks to change one nob that controls the volumes independently, Im going to check out the other suggestion as well, thx for all the input!

Good luck with the amp I had the first 5150 iii head liked the 3 separate channels. Later I tried the 50 watt head and I really couldn't get on with the volume drop. I then went to the 2 12 combo it sounded good but I couldn't deal moving that beast around and can't afford a roadie(lol) They are all good sounding amps and I may pick up a used one again in the future but gas was calling and I moved on to other amps. I did find the 3rd channel on the 50 watt head has too much gain and thins out. I agree the blue channel for me sounded the best .

I saw in another post you had a quickrod, how do the 5153's compare to the quickrod?
