Grabbing a 5153 mini wed, still a great smp?

The 5153 didn't take boost pedal like I expected. Good amp not great. Cheap. Not Mesa.

On the other side it was fairly tight as is and didn't require a boost like some other amps.

I've owned the 5150iii and I'd probably try to check out a splawn street rod or mesa mini rec or mini mark

I just got an EVH 4x12 through a trade, now I'm trying to figure out whether to get the 100 watt or 50 watt.
I've tried them both in the store. 50 watt seems to have more gain on blue and red channels, a bit tighter sounding maybe? I thought the 100 sounded a little bit (just a little) closer to a Marshall, while the 50 watt seemed to regain some of that old 5150 grind.
I'm a bit torn as the 50 seems to have some more advanced features as it came out a few years after the 100.
I'm wondering if we'll see another new 100 anytime soon.

For me 100w hands down over the 50w. I feel the 100w is tighter. I don't use any of the 50w features. I keep the resonance at noon and never touch it. Never used the headphone jack. I like the less gain in channel 2 of the 100w, after all, channel 3 is there when you need more gain. I like having 3 independent channels. The only reason I use the 50w is because its smaller and lighter and fits better on top of the 2x12 and locks in place when you tilt the cab back.

Well the head should be here in a week or so, GC was backordered, I think Ill find a lot of good tones in it, Im not even a VH superfan but Ive seen country guys to metal guys using the head so it seems pretty versatile...

Got the head tonite...awesome! I don't wanna sound like a 5th grader but the head is sick! having a lot of fun with it, if the gain is past noon there is no volume jump, lots o good tones in it, running it through a 1x12 loaded with a v30 and its killing, cant wait to jam with the guys and crank it a bit!

Just switched to a 5150 III 50w recently too and I love it. Its not as huge and advanced as my previous German rig but the price along side the size and weight make it an unreal value and not for nothing, it does sound mean as hell with a great clean!
