Im probably alone here but I could never gel with the SLO or any Soldano for that matter. Granted, this was YEARS ago but as much as Ive dug what Ive heard from others, Soldanos never did it for me ( IVe had the same experience with Bogners)

I love my JCA20 designed by Soldano..... of course after I made it sound good
I have no doubts that ID like a DD Soldano....

Steve has Slo gas!

I think I will corner the SLO market during the SLO period and become a SLO tycoon. I'll be the Jed Clampett of SLO.

Now, I got to go conduct b'ness and sell some stuff.

Steve
Read it again...  Slow Gas. :D

That would make a decent bedroom amp probably. I was thinking about getting one of those in a combo to leave here in the office for noodling around on when I don't feel like walking all the way out to Testosteroom. Plus, it would keep the real one's fresh.

I tried 2 SLO's and walked away thinking they were ok both times. But I think both had some issues.

I thought it smoked that Cameron modded XTC when we compared them. Since I liked the Avenger I'm going to have to say I'd probably like the SLO.

hmm...it must be because I think there was only Avenger made with Deyoung transformers

Let me know if you ever want to sell it

Ampaddact has my old purple slo which is a 92 I think and it was a great amp, I also had a few hot rod 50's and I they sound great to. If you want the soldano type tone get the new jet city 22h, that amp rips ass right out of the box. I liked it with a boost to tighen up the bottom end a bit, great amp for 400 bucks. Soldano's do sound great.

All bullshit aside, the thing with the SLO is the same as other two channel amps - EQ sharing and finding the fine line with both channels. For me, if it were a bone stock SLO, I would not be able to find the right balance between both channels. On its own, channel 1 set to crunch and the gain dimed is very cool. On its own, channel 2 is searing, smooth and tight. But, for me personally, I don't think I could get there without the factory mods as it would require some EQ tweaking. This is where the Mid-scoop mod comes in. With it engaged, I can dial the shared EQ over channel and channel 2 is right there where I want it. I don't care much for the Hayne's mod on the lead channel and leave it set to normal and the bright off. The depth mod is global and this to me is a must on the SLO. I tend to run all my amps with a lot of presence and bottom end, somewhat scooped on the mids and with a fair amount of treble....through Scumbacks (or GB's) in a rear load cab, which will make loads of difference over the recommended front load with Eminence Legends, which will naturally project more than a rear load.

No pedals required, no hitting the front end with a OD or boost and the factory modded SLO is punchy, deep and tight and has something going on that I like a hell of a lot. All of this and I couldn't tell you what tubes are in it. It is the first new amp I have bought and played this long right out of the box without having to fuck with tubes. This purple one I just picked up from Jim on TGP is an 05, has a factory depth and the mid-scoop mod, which is the perfect set up for me.

Done got my mind made up of which Marshall mods I will keep. A fella always needs some good Marshall grunt around for blending or a change altogether. Gonna damn sure be keeping my Suhr modded Aldrich mod and my new Friedman HBE/JBE mod. It absolutely fucking rips and has a great loop in it, as does the Suhr. Keeping my Fortin mod, one of Mark's mods and the Snorkler. Everything else is for sale.

and that's all I need. And this... An Aldrich, friedman, fortin, a mark mod, a snorkler, and a SLO. And that's all I need. And this...

Selection is a good thing! They are all unique and some not easy to come by. I am just glad that I've got my shit together and can own more than one amp.

It's a reference to the movie The Jerk. Old movie, but I still laugh.

Who is that boggydepot character.
I dunno but I am sending him an SLO tomorrow. It has the SCOOP mod and DEPTH mod.

I still have this, minus the soon to be shipped SLO straight head on top of the Lucky 13:

Watch it Jim. You have entirely too much stuff and it is all Soldano. That can lead to much butt-hurt here on RT.....

Steve

Why would Jim have to watch it?

He's been fairly consistent with the amps he uses from what I've seen.

He should probably limit his exposure on Rig Talk so he doesn't degrade into a fad chaser/flipper. Not that TGP is any better in that regard.
