Okay...

First off, Danhops has some COOL @$$ AMPS!

His JCM 800 based Cameron is the best Modded Marshall I've EVER heard! I could actually deal with his modded Uberschall's dirty channel (I dislike the stock dirty). And he had a Sovtek Mig that had maybe 75% of the tonal goodness of the modded JCM! I expected a better clean out of the EVH (it is a fender after all). The crunch channel and the lead channel are very good when the gain is on 10. Backing off the guitar's volume sounds great on these too. No way are these 5150 I's or II's so no death metal here BUT, if you want the '80's, YOU GOT IT!

Secondly, playing the drill twins' 2 guitars, has me thinking about switching 1 or 2 of my guitars to micro action too  ;) I hate them both with a passion, they are TOO GOOD! They make me feel like this :aww: when they play :D

Third, Slaved Mesa's sound GREAT!

Four, Psychodave likes Yngwie (like I do)

It was great to hang with everybody and meet some new faces! :cheers2: Chime in fellas!

DAMNIT!!!! I really wish I could have made this one. Sounds like you guys had a great time playing some killer amps.

Did danhops plug in at all??? :gethim:

Why do people keep saying this? First of all, Fender hasn't made an amp with "Fender cleans" in 40 years. Second, the 5150 III isn't a "Fender", it's a modded Marshall copy assembled by Fender's third world workers and branded under EVH's company name.

Fender's role in that amp is to build it cheaply on their assembly line and get it out to market in a large number of retailers using Fender's existing dealer base, neither of which a small company would be able to do.

I like the 5150 III and might even buy one, and I have nothing against Fender (own or have owned many of their amps) but the 5150 III should not be referred to as a "Fender".

Nah, but I should've. Next time I will just have to let it fly. Suck or no suck. Just need to stack up on the booze :D Damn issues I have.

Does that mean a MIM Strat or Tele can't be called a Fender either?

The amp is technically made by Fender, so I don't think it's a big deal to say that on internet discussion boards....yes it is a mass produced Mexican.

Cool guitars and even cooler amps. I'd love to go to one of these.

Dan's Cameron is freaking sick, filthy sick. I loved watching Dave getting all into it playing Mr Scary  I think I have met my match for dude that loves to play the most.

Ivan, thanks for bringing the ENGL SE, I really enjoyed that amp ALOT! Micro action you need good METAL guitars   :D It was great to see you again brother.

The 5153 ch2 rocks and that amp is not close to the originals......not even close.

It was great to see my boy H throw down on some backing tracks, nobody brings it the way H does. You really need to come spend a weekend at my joint so we can play til our fingers are bleeding.

I also enjoyed Andrew's VH4S and it was great to see you.

Nice to meet your Vultures, yeah forgot your name sorry....good luck with your MK IV - slave out - J-Station trick you learned ;)

Oh yeah.....slaved my MK IV last night

Thanks for hosting Danny, you have a great home btw so congrats!

Sounds like you guys had an absolute blast!!! Can't wait to see the pics.

Maybe someone should start a thread on "How to setup micro-action on your guitar". I'm sure i'm not the only one who would love to know some of the maintenance involved to acheive this.

It was nice meeting a few that I have not met before. I can say without any doubt that I will not be lugging much gear to any more of these things in the future. Perhaps one amp and a guitar, but thats about it. For a 31 year old guy, I felt like I was 80 by the time I got home. The price I pay for being such a lazy POS!!

No, the MIM Fender branded items are still "Fender", but I wouldn't call a Gretsch, Guild, Tacoma, Jackson, SWR, Charvel, etc... "Fenders" even though they are all made by Fender.

I don't see people saying a Jackson guitar should sound like a Fender because it's made by Fender, but I've heard numerous people comment that the new EVH 5150 III should sound more like a Fender because it's made by Fender.

Fender is just the umbrella by which EVH's company is manufacturing and marketing his product. This is different from the 2 Peavey 5150 amps which were Peavey amps with EVH's stamp on them.

Its not hard to do with the right guitar really. Just need a flat radius fingerboard, a neck thats almost arrow straight with a good breaking angle, even frets, and patience working your bridge, and and nut. Patience is really the key here. You also will be required to keep an eye on your neck movements a bit more than usual, as a slight shift can make it unplayable.

That is one of the reasons I have gone away from the micro action, any change in climate or humidity and it was fret out city.

Damn, that sounds like a great frickin time!

Hopefully someone took pics of the festivities...would love to see them.

Vultures I believe took some pics of the rigs, there was way more amps than I thought would be there.

Hey Scott did you have a chance to try the 5150 III's channel 1 and 3 I know you said ch 2 kicked ass but I was wondering about the other two as well :)

Danhops......

you REALLY NEED to send that Cameron to me for the Texas Metalheads seal of approval.

We did dial in a clean on ch1 and it was very usable, not my favorite channel switcher clean but it sounded alot better than that GW vid :D . CH3 sounds great as well, almost sounds like EL34s rather than the 6L6s imo. Much more colorful than the 5150 and goose the volume up some and it has great sustain. Articulate enough and held together very well, cleans up great too with the fiddle volume.

We were using Dave's early 70s GB cab btw but I have to be honest...............Dan's freaking Cameron just blew everything away imo.

Glad you guys had fun. AGH, i got a splitting headache since i got a little toasted :D I think i played all of 30 seconds on Scotts Ibanez, but it was fun hearing some amps like the new EVH and Dan's Cameron. And yeah, i liked the Cameron a little bit more than the EVH. But on the Greenback cab, the EVH sounded pretty good.

Thanks for you guys for lugging stuff over  And Thanks to H for th setup on my Wayne

Odin, as far as I know, the people that designed the 5150 III in conjunction with EVH were mostly Fender personnel (if not all of them). Jackson are made by Jackson personnel. I see a distinction between the two. And even if you don't agree that's fine. I have an opinion and you have yours. In any case, I felt that an amp that Fender had INVOLVEMENT with, would have a better clean channel. 'nuff said on this as the semantics aren't important to me, only the tone.
