I have two July 1989 greenbacks which are stamped with 6402 on the cones. I just received two May 1989 greenbacks that don’t have 6402 on the cones but just a greenish handwritten “3” on them. I read on bygone tones that some mid 70’s RIC cones were hand written. Since 1989 was the first year of greenback reissues, is it possible they used some leftover RIC cones? Or likely re-coned? Thanks!

If it’s been reconed, there should be some kind of sticker or the remnants of one somewhere on the frame. Some of my Celestions don’t have stamps; my 65s…3 do but one does not. But the cone looks exactly the same as the others do, ribs, doping etc.
The RIC cones I’ve had, were stamped except for 1 that was not. I’d guess yours are legit and for some reason didn’t get a stamp. Compare the cones and see if there are any differences.

They were from a blues breaker combo from either 1989 or 1990. No indication of a recone from the original owner of the amp according to the seller of the speakers.

The best way to tell, is throw them in a cab and if they are recones, you’ll definitely hear a difference in them vs the stamped cones.
