My first time hearing Mudvayne was the "Dig" video. If you haven't seen it yet you should know that it's disturbingly odd and freaky as all hell. This was around 2001, I think. The juke box at the local bar had one song in it that was metal - "Death Blooms" and it got constant rotation.

Over the years I've anticipated their next albums and was never let down. Well, the band is back together and writing new music. Ryan, Matt and Chad are so awesome on bass, drums and vocals that sometimes Greg gets overshadowed.

The first time I saw them live they were dressed up but as time went on only Chad dressed up. The new videos show them all dressed up again. When they play live now, they have a second guitarist.

The last time I went to see them I wouldn't go in or let my son go in because it was so packed, literally like sardines packed!!!

Greg really is something else, something great, something so innovated that I have a hard time figuring out what the hell he's actually doing. My band threw a few Mudvayne songs into the mix and they are so melodic they go over well with the crowd.

I enjoy his playing but I'd hardly call it innovative personally

I agree, there were plenty of bands doing that kind of thing like Candiria, Coalesce and a bunch others, but LD50 they took that thing with pop like catchy song structures, and along with their image it was great. I give GGGarth the most credit, that dude is under the radar, but his resume is as good as anyone producing

Are you Greg Tribbett’s best friend by any chance? Ha ha

No problems with him at all. I’m not sure I understand the “innovative” part.

He’s ok in my book with his playing but the big problem is Ryan is one of the best live bass players I’ve ever seen and Matt is a beast behind the kit.

Yeah, no shit. Give me some vids or something.
Perhaps Greg isn't as innovative as Monkey or Head from KORN, but I like the stuff they do and the music both bands put out is golden, so good that in Mudvayne, Greg gets overlooked. This type of playing 25 years ago when they first came out was so much better than most stuff coming out and was different, for being on the radio. I'm sure that there were guitarist doing similar stuff earlier than Greg, but it sucked so no one heard it.

Greg is innovative because the songs he wrote were actually great, not just different than most everyone else at the time.

Here's a great example of some random kid playing a Mudvayne tune -

you should check out Coalesce Markedman, they were doing the LD50 kind of thing in the mid 90s

I am a fan of Soften The Glare and I think Ryan is a badass on bass!

I’m just not familiar with Greg Tribbett and his “innovative” playing?

the greatest thing he did was his bobbing dance move while playing. ive tried to do it many times and fall over every time. these dudes put on a show for sure
