I'm new to the boards here, so I'll start by saying hello.

I've been reading through a lot of posts on this, but can't seem to find definitive answers to sway me either way. I've always been a fan and user of Digitech, and progressed from the GNX2 all the way to the GNX3000, which is my current unit. I've been using it for 10+ years. When the GNX4 came out after, I still liked the 3000 better, so stuck with it. And the newer RP1000 I don't like at all.

To get to the point, I play in a busy rock cover band, record my own material, and the 3000 has suited me well. But I feel a change to a GSP1101 or older 2101 would be an upgrade. They're probably cleaner sounding units with a more professional, defined, organic tone? It's too hard to tell from YouTube videos.

My main concern is amp options and effects. My band does everything from Boston, Rush, Green Day, AC/DC, Journey, and Eric Johnson, to Tom Petty, Bryan Adams, and many more. The GNX3000 has 65 User presets, and I use 40-50 any given night (having different amp settings for all the different tones and effects, and the 3000 does a pretty decent job) and I'm always complimented on how accurate I duplicate the sounds and effects from these various artist. I'm also the only guitar player, so, for example, I have all the harmonies in the Boston tunes set to the different intervals on different patches. Would this be just as easy to do with a 2101 or 1101? Also, I see the 1101 doesn't seem to have the Whammy included? Stereo XLR outs are also a must along with stereo 1/4" outs.

I've always been pretty good at programming these things, so I'm not very concerned with ease of operation. I mainly wonder the differences between these units- The GSP1101, and the different versions of the 2101- there's an Artist, ArtistPro version, a 2112, and a 2120? And are they that much better than the GNX3000?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

The 2112 and the 2120 are identical in terms of hardware - the 2120 came with an additional 141 preset that the 2112 didn't have. You can however just upgrade a 2112 with the latest firmware and it then is (apart from the faceplate) effectively a 2120.

I never had a 2101, but I had both the 1101 and 2120 at the same time. The 2120 has a lot more versatility in the effects section than the 1101 does. Both unit can sound awesome, but the 2120 requires some serious tweaking to get there, especially when needing the equalizer block (which was always for my case). I could have sold either and be happy with what I was left with but I chose to sell the 2120 only because I wanted something that can fit a two-space rack together with a one-space power amp. It was also easier to tweak in a live situation.

Thanks geetar_geek.

Reading deeper into the 1101 manual on-line, it seems the IPS and Whammy are now part of the Chorus/FX module, and you can only use one effect at a time, kind of a bummer. On the GNX3000, the IPS and Whammy had their own module.

I don't think this is a deal-breaker, but I use the IPS and Whammy a lot, and I would hate to have those patches "dry" with no Chorus at all.

I've never own the 1101 but I did have an RP1000 for awhile and before that used a 2120 for many years. If i had to choose between the two it would for sure be the 2120 for me. Although it takes awhile to get the programming down there are tons of great sounds in that box. The problem I ran into with them is those units are getting old and I had 2 of them die on me.....

If you don't like the sound of the RP1000 you won't like the sound of the GSP1101. Essentially the same unit asside from one being a floor unit and one being rack (and the 1101 has a second dsp chip for spill over) unless I am mistaken.
