Guide me to a great single coil neck pickup?

Can anyone suggest a great overall single coil neck pup for my basswood strat with a maple neck & rosewood fingerboard?

Not very familiar with single coil neck pups.

Thinking about a Duncan Hot Rails or SSL 5.......

Suggestions ??

What bridge pickup are you matching it to?
What kind of music?
Do you want that glassy Stratocaster single coil sound or kind of a fluid higher gain darker shred tone?

What tone are you looking for? If you're looking at Hot Rails it's safe to assume you want humbucker sound?

My best results with a rail single in the bridge of a Strat has been the Dimarzio Air Norton S. Balanced output, great tone, and no hum.

If you've looking for a different tone or more / less output let me know and I can make other recommendations.

For low output replacement to what a sort of standard strat-style neck humbucker I would say the Motor City Woodward alnico III : http://motorcitypickups.com/products/woodward.htm
For more moderate output & use with leads both bluesy & rocking as well as a pickup that cleans up pretty nice I would completely recommend the Motor City pickups The Motor alnico V pickup : http://motorcitypickups.com/products/motor.htm
