The manger of Sam Ash in Orlando told me the same thing. He also said that it would take Fender down with them, but I don't recall his exact wording. GC did away with the door checker personal in our area, and their wall stock has dropped to two rows. Most of the floor amps were gone also.

Shit, same thing out here(north attleboro ma, warwick ri, mill bury ma stores) This started happening before christmas and my friend said they were trying to get inventory replenished but it just hasn't happened. It could also explain why my friend said they have been told to lowball trade in offers on used gear

It's because parents drop their kids off while they shop elsewhere. Then those kids grab $2000-$3000 guitars to play Green Day riffs, only to turn around and smack the headstock on something. Which in turn lowers the value. Plus the morons they hire know nothing about gear and setups. Not to mention their in store stock sucks. It's just a giant mismanaged clusterfuck on all fronts.

Yeah, no wonder why Mesa pulled out. A lot of their amps got abused in GC's.

There goes the re-sale on anyone trying to move a used guitar! F'in GC... They did the same thing to Les Pauls - blow shit out, and totally kill a market.

When Fender tried to go public a few years back they had to disclose in their IPO Disclosures there biggest vendor (60% of total sales) was GC who was 12 months behind and in receivership. They withdrew their IPO shortly thereafter. Look up Mars music , same thing. Expanded way to much for a finite market. Just about everyone is a customer for Target or Best Buy, Guitar Center not so much but they have tons of stores in the same big box model and space. Sweetwater is kicking their ass all over the place. Brick and Mortar is done for niche items.

Ares recently traded debt for a controlling interest in GC so they basically have a new owner since Bain has a minority stake now. Expect changes since Ares just wrote off $500,000,000 in debt and also reduced the interest rate. Basically they can't survive under the current model so Ares has to change things up if they ever want to recoup their 'investment'. As I understand it (and I'm not saying I do) Ares was forced to make a decision - either let them go bankrupt and loose all their money owed or exchange that owed money and take over the company to try to fix things and get back some of that money. That debt pay down and lower interest rate will buy them quite a bit of time though. I expect this all played into fmic closing the hamer, ovation, guild, kms? facility recently and in the future I would expect fender, gibson, and prs to attempt to lower somehow the percent of their business that is reliant on GC. Of course this is all the idle rambling of an armchair ceo who has probably had one too many beers on a saturday night who can't crank up his too loud amp because the wife and kids are already sleeping . . . .
