I called GC in chicago last night to try to buy a used peavey ultra plus for 400 bucks, and they said they cant ship tube amps....well, how the fuck do they get to you from the manufacturer in the first place??? This is the most retarded shit I have heard...

So, just in case you guys wanted to buy a tube amp off of the used GC website...you cant!!

they just don't want to ship a used amp, a new amp comes direct from the warehouse

Post this shit over on both the HC Forums to rub in the fail that is GC/MF/HCAF.
And we will keep it alive...
They pulled my thread about how slow the forum was there the other day...it took them a few days to get. It was up 3 or 4 days and had 6 or 7 posts on it...a real hot thread over there.

Maybe that's a good thing.

I bought a used 5150 combo in 1995 from the Hollywood GC to have shipped to Texas. The sales guy said he'd include the footswitch, which wasn't with the amp, but "was somewhere in his garage."

The amp arrived to me in a box with NO support - none. It was simply thrown in a cardboard box. The wood 5150 grille had fallen off, tubes broken, several pots had to be replaced, and they had to replace the PC board. All on GC's dime. Plus, I never got the footswitch that was "in the garage."

Save for some strings or picks, I won't shop there - ever.

for maximum win, as in all business responses, you should include names and phone numbers. Specifics win the battle. With whom did you speak? Set yourself free and tell the world.

call back if you have to.

Every time i have asked any of them online about shipping the used amp to me, they said that they would ship it no problem :scared:

Last year, I received an amp like that from an eBay seller who took it to a "shipping store". The pros there put it in an oversized box (actually, two small boxes taped together to form one box way too big for the amp), and that was it. Just the amp flopping around in a big box. No foam, no bubble, no nothing. The seller said "not my problem", the shipping store said they didn't pack it that way, the shipping company said "We sure as hell ain't paying for that". All of which has cured me from buying non-locally and saved me quite a bit of money. So maybe it's a good thing after all.

Yeah. Oh well. I really wanted that amp. I called with my card in my hand, and they said they couldnt ship it. I got another deal in the works anywayz...

I don't see why any GC would have a issue shipping a used amp and doing it properly with confidence. It's not like they should have a hard time finding proper boxes and packing materials from all the gear they get in weekly. Maybe it's just the guy you talked to or that particular store.

Yeah, I have no idea. I asked them to pull the tubes and ship it, they said no. I asked if they would ship it to another GC, they said no. Whatever the issue is, they wouldnt do it. The guy kept "talking to his manager" which could totally be false, but w/e. Really damn annoying.

I hope you at least gave the seller negative feedback. Ultimately its on the seller to make sure its packed properly.

For the most part 95% of my deals online have been great. I have had a few bumps in the road.

I say they don't want to mess with shipping a $400 deal. Probably figure why screw with shipping and all with an amp that they aren't making much on when likely someone will buy it in the store and walk out the door with it.

If you were buying a $1500 amp I say no problem. I bought my Diezel Herbert from GC and they volunteered to ship it for me.

I think the dude was just bullshitting you. I have had different GC's ship me Rivera Fandango, Quiana combos without problems.

Call them up and ask if they will ship you a $5,000 amp. If so, ask about adding in the PV. Then cancel the big order

ROFL

call back and talk to someone else and see if they give you a different story? no need to mention the previous conversation. wonder if the response will be different.

GC sucks anyways. I would avoid shopping there at all costs for more reasons than that.

I'm not surprised if this is actually try..I've bought 3 used amps from GCs across the country, and each time, it has come damaged/misrepresented/missing something. They really are clueless and careless...it's not that hard to package an amp properly.

Again, if it is true, they are just trying to avoid the hassle rather than fix it.
