Guitar Center wonder's why they are failing as a company?

I ordered a 6505+ from GC online in used condition not long ago. Thing was great and still works mint. It was about an 8.5 out of 10 condition wise. When I made that purchase, it gave me $100 free dollars to spend on a future purchase. I had been looking for a decent/cheap Electric Acoustic so I figured what the heck.

I found a nice looking used Fender CD-60CE on their site for $119 and decided to pull the trigger. It was out in Missouri, so I figured I would pull the trigger. In the end it only cost me $42 out of pocket after tax and shipping so not really too bad.

Well, the guitar showed up today and I am just astonished at the stupidity... First off, the guitar was packaged in the wrong box. The box was too small as it was for a Taylor GSmini which to my knowledge is a 7/8 scale Acoustic. So naturally because of that, part of the headstock was sticking out. Their solution for that was to slice the box, fold it over the headstock and put a single layer of bubble wrap over it.

Their answer to me was basically "you bought a used guitar so that's why it's damaged"... COMPLETE bullshit to me... I never complain, but this is complete ignorance. There is absolutely no excuse for this at all. This guitar sounds incredible for a $100 used cheapo... I don't know if I want to send it back or just raise hell and get my $42 back since the rest of it was kind of just a "gift" in a way for purchasing something else during a promotion. Pissed AF right now...

The circumstances surrounding the purchase don’t negate the poor packaging job they did. That’s unacceptable.

Which GC was this?

Funny - even the box says Real. Small. Taylor.

But yeah...no excuse.

I have a horror story about GC’s shipping too!

I ordered a Mesa/Boogie amp a few years ago from one of their New York locations. They removed the power tubes, but they placed the tubes UNDERNEATH the amp! I figured “maybe the tubes josteled around in transit”. Nope. They placed a single piece of tape around the tubes, and affixed the tubes to the bottom of the head.

If that wasn’t bad enough, the power tubes they removed and taped to the bottom of the headshell were Mesa STR-415s. One of the sweetest power tubes evar...

All SIX tubes...completely shattered.

These stories are the reason i don't ever shop at GC.

No excuse for the poor packaging on both those items. I really try to avoid GC and try to spend my money with local mom and pop shops.

That is an appalling dereliction of duty, in both cases.
It’s high time Guitar Center did a Henry Juszkiewicz and vacated their own premises.

Their over-sized retail spaces, filled with mediocre over-priced planks, staffed by unmotivated (over-sized) drongoes who take your rucksack from you at the door so you can’t stuff a Flying V in their while you take 2 minutes to wheel around in the vain hope there may actually be a Flying V in stock, have the ability to stretch to 20 minutes minimum to complete the smallest transaction and present you with pages of nothingness to say you bought a pack of strings.
They never, ever, ever have the pickup you are looking for, unless it is a Liquifire, which they have 6 of, all regular spaced, all black.

Enough already. Dig up the Rockwalk, and move on.

I’m on the fence...

Oh. My. God.

I bought a 2B Coli from them long ago just for those tubes....luckily they were intact.....

I bought a Strat from them earlier this year. It was new and in it's own plastic, but was thrown in a random box with no padding or other protection. Somehow it didn't have any damage. I definitely won't do it again.

I get some great deals at guitar center.. I like them.. some individuals in the shipping department of certain stores have no pride in their job but i have been able to talk to a manager and get a nice discount on an already great used price- only happened once.

This is the first time I have shopped GC in almost 10 years. I probably will never go again. I too like to support local smaller shops but this shithole of a company has squashed them almost completely.

This particular GC was in Bridgeton, MO. The only reason I even bought the 6505 from them a couple months ago was because they had it listed at a reasonable price and everyone everywhere seems to think a 5150 or 6505 is worth 800 bux...

They have given me the option to return it which I declined because it sounds so good and they won't do anything else. Ill take pics of the rest of the guitar later. When I say it's brand new condition it's incredible. Especially for a model that dates by the serial number to 2015. Whoever owned it took really good care of it or never played it.

Bought an interface there last week; didn’t work when it showed up.

Returned it to my local store, we tried everything to get it to work there and nothing.

Took the $ and bounced, woke up yesterday morning to check their used site for another one (still want that interface) and the broken one was listed for sale at my local store.

Morons.
