I haven't visited in some time now, not sure if the GCs in this area have them locked up.
But it's simple; if all you can do is look at the guitar, cheaper online is the easy choice.

They’ve tried to improve pics and descriptions on used gear but they get too flowery with the description like it’s a brochure for a time share. It’s not new. I know what it is.
I want to know exactly what it comes with, not poetry on the spiritual journey of plugging it in. I found several guitars that after a full paragraph of nonsense, they still didn't mention if there was, or was not, a gig bag or case. Amps that don’t say if the foot switch is with it.
Pic shows no trem arm for the Floyd or wrenches. Does it have those things or not?

If you have to ask, then likely not. If it ain’t pictured, you don’t get it.

With that being said, I’ve definitely read about those stories where the G came with a case and all original case candy but none of that was mentioned. It’s annoying but theyve trained me to have extremely low expectations.
 
All the people who were saying GC should have high end guitars in easy access are idiots. Yeah, that's exactly what I look for in a several thousand dollar guitar. I want every Tom, Dick, and dipshit tire kicker to have fucked around with and beat the hell out of it. When GC first came to my area they allowed anyone to grab anything off the wall to try. It was common place to see an expensive custom shop Les Paul with chips in the headstock where some two-bit snot-nosed kid had smacked it on something. And they had the nerve to still ask list price.

That shit still happens today. You order online expecting a NIB guitar and you get a floor model with a big scrape across the paint. If GC wants to have a sacrificial floor model for anyone to try, that's all fine an dandy. But when I go to buy they better damn well have a brand new one in the back that hasn't have everyone's grubby paws all over it.

Before GC rolled in, all the "mom & pop" stores you had to ask to try something. Even then they didn't let you just play anything unless they knew you well or you had cash in hand with intention to buy. They didn't have have inventory to put out a bunch of floor models and be able to grab NIB from the back. They also didn't have the means to discount everything because a random kid nicked it. It was a you break it you buy it policy.

The difference between GC and M&P was the service. you didn't have to search the store and wait 20 minutes for help at a M&P store. They were also ingrained in the products they sold knowing them inside and out. Can't say that about GC employees. You ask a question and they have to look it up on the website. Then you get a blank stare as they say "uuhhh it doesn't say in the description."

And let's not forget about used gear. Shitty pictures & descriptions. They don't disclose if anything has been swapped out. I bought a used 412 cab online which was supposed to have V30's and 8 ohms. When it arrived I plugged it it and something didn't sound right. Turns out it had shitty Berhinger speakers in it with the wiring fucked up to make it 2 ohms. I was pissed. That could have fried my amp. What did GC do when I showed them when returning it. They put it right back out for sale with no disclosure about the speakers & wiring.

Long story short; Guitar Center is and has been rather useless. They have a long way to go if they want to gain a better reputation.
 
Haven't stepped into GC since 2013.

I grew tired of always picking up atrociously set up guitars. Never in tune, old ass strings.

Only ever purchased a used LP studio from the 90s, in 2012 for $500, killer deal at the time.

Had a slight report with a few workers...but just grew tired of the whole deal.

Actually surprised they survived bankruptcy, to be honest. Most of their customers are employees, who violate their own policies, and flip guitars and gear for profit.

Had many friends work there, and their pay situation is like indentured servitude.🤮

You must be referencing a couple of my posts with more serious tone, or the mini rant about people at my work. No bad attitude intended in any of those. There's still my usual joking around peppered throughout the forum.

It's not the first time someone has said similar. Maybe because I'm usually laid back or joking about things, people think I'm upset when I take a more serious tone. Like I'll be thinking about something and my wife will ask "is everything okay you look pissed." I'll be like "no, I'm not mad, just thinking if I want to swap speakers around in my cabs." :LOL:

I had a good day yesterday too. When to a local guy's place (Nick/SonicTone Amps), tested a couple of his amps, and placed an order for one with a requested custom mod to it. Can't bee too upset about that. :) I posted a thread if you haven't seen it yet.

Went to two Guitar Rip centers yesterday

Tool Les Paul sig axe with a broken headstock
Phil Collin Jackson Custom with a broken string and the fine tuners jammed in as far as they'd go.

Only thing that was on par price wise was the new gear,
Used crap was overpriced like a dime store hooker.
 
When I lived just outside of Denver I used to go to the Platinum store in Englewood and they had a room with the higher end stuff locked up and you would need help to check out anything , but I didn't mind as at least stuff was mostly pristine and in excellent condition overall...
Fast forward now that I'm just outside of Greenville SC and the GC here is beyond disappointing with a lackluster gear selection of total crap pretty much and it resembles a Pawn shop . These days I buy even my guitar strings and picks online.
 
Guitars advertised as new with boogers all over them. Ask them for New in Box? "Sorry sir, that's the last of that model in the wall."
Walk out with model from wall with boogers and a 1/2 hour later a new one is taken out of the box and put on the wall so that some bunch of teenagers can take a hit of acid with a logo of a guitar on it and decide at 3pm on a Friday they're going to be Eddie Van Halen. Proceeds to guitar center with friends to put boogers all over the new guitar.

Moral of the story? F Guitar Center.
 
My local GC has a new demo room with a bunch of nice guitars for anyone to grab and plug in. I spent a bunch of time in there alone and had more fun than I’ve had at any GC in many years. Looking forward to going back honestly. All the LP’s were set up like shit though that was a bummer.
