I hijacked this comment from another thread to pose an age old question:

Someone tell the http://www.egnateramps.com webmaster that it's
Nuno "Bettencourt" NOT "Betincort" and that he loses 5 cool
points for misspelling a guitar god's name. :D

Okay, just what constitutes Guitar God status?

Lets look at the criteria for Sainthood as a model:

A person must be righteous and virtuous. (tone/musical technical ability/stage presence/others?)

The person must be from that particular religion. (Music style)

Some religions require that the person has to have passed away and attained a place in heaven before they can be considered for Sainthood. Others acknowledge Sainthood as a state that can be achieved while a person is living too. (can guitar God status be established by mere mortals while living? make your argument

The person needs to have performed miracles while living and or after death. (levitated on stage/been able to have made over a million dollars post 2000 in personal wealth despite peer to peer file sharing/etc)

The person needs to be able to intercede with God on behalf of people. (either have sold their souls to the devil or acquired the Pick of Destiny - evidence required)

Okay, now that the criteria has been established, defend your God.

Steve Vai is an alien

He makes the most impossible things on guitar look quite easy.

and he is handsome.

According to Dig Jams posts, it must be somwhere around the 10,000 mark :D

Sold his Soul AND Acquired the Pick of Destiny. Killed the image of being an emaciated performer. One of the Kindest people you could ever hope to meet. Never stopped trying to evolve his craft. I can't say as I enjoy every song he ever wrote/performed but same feeling goes with most "Gods" cept for maybe Robert Johnson, but then again Robert didn't have to worry about the charts, Limewire, Utube, only the womens and maybe Peetie Wheatstraw.
