Who would refinish a 200K guitar?

Dave Johnson. The Best. Period. People send him their Murphy's to be "fixed" while they wait for him to restore their real 58/59/60's Bursts.

I guess I was asking, if once a vintage guitar is refinished, is it still "vintage" / worth as much as original? And what guitar is worth 200K?

I thought about that after I posted and that's a valid question...the answer is typically someone with more money than brains. $200k guitars? easy - any of the real 58/59/60's Burst's DJ works on. Old wood is still old wood, and realistically someone like DJ or Murphy's skillz are in enough demand that they will actually add and/or retain value on an instrument, but yeah, a $25k hit on a refin for a real LP is probably about right.

For a Jackson or Charvel I'd recommend contacting GMW

Lee doesn't finish bodies any more, he's only building full guitars. But Dan Lawrence (who did the graphics for GMW and still does for Charvel) will refinish. Dan does a great job, but he ain't cheap.

headlessdeadguy (auto body man) repainted my Godin and I couldn't be happier with it... And it even sounds better than ever - of course that could be the new pickup that came with the paint   .. I just wish the Sunburst finish I had my local Luthier do on my 81' Pinto would have turned out better  ...

Autopaint on guitar - 1
Guitar Finish on Pinto - 0

Unless you are going to do it yourself, I'd take the money you would spend on paint and apply it to a new guitar. Is this a vintage Jackson or an import? If it's an older one you might not want to fool with it. If it's a newer one you may not want to mess with it from a resale value either. Although they may not bring a whole lot used, it will be worth more in original condition. Then again it's your guitar...I am in the process of relicing my '80's Charvel Model 4. It was my first "real" guitar back in the day but it served it's purpose and now I'm transforming it.

I don't think the Pinto looks that bad.
