This post will show my age. I was fortunate to get in on the dying era of playing 3-4 nighters at a regular circuit of 6-8 venues. Did that for a few years and still cherish those memories... At the time, these were my weapons of choice - made to order Liberatore guitars. I went to G.I.T. In ‘89 and one of my best friends actually worked for Mauro Liberatore at his shop. Mauro visited LA that year and I got to hang with him for several days. I was blown away by the quality and scraped together every penny I could to buy these two.

Fast forward, these guys had seen better days. The old Schaller Floyds (back before they put hardened inserts in the intonation screw holes) were getting old and tired. So each guitar got brand new tuning machines and brand new bridges. Purple got a 57/66 set. I liked the white EMGs in the lightning guitar, so I left those, but soldered in a brand new jack, battery clip, volume pot and 3-way switch. Got everything cleaned up, ebony boards oiled, and spent a full day on action and intonation with my Peterson Strob-o-stomp. I am blown away at how well these guys play. Check out the saddles on the lightning guitar - no compensated nut, no Buzz Feiton system - thats just where they lined up after strobe tuning the intonation! They definitely need frets: 1 - 4 have heavy chording dents. There is a local shop that does impeccable work and I’m probably gonna do stainless 6100s this winter.

I have since moved to non-locking trems and passive pickups. But what a blast bringing these two back to life!
