Guys who run W/D or W/D/W in here...

So Dave Friedman and Rob schooled me on this setup at the amp show last month. Since returning all I have been playing is my Wizard through a W/D setup using my Carvin power amp. I am totally sold on this type of rig.

What type of box are you guys using for amps without a line out? What power amp are you using? Best speakers for the wet cab? Is a slave out ok to use as well?

VHT 2/50/2 and you can also use anyone of your other heads that have a loop for w/d

Slave out of either my SLO or 101b, into a PCM70 or SDE3000 into a HHV800 = Bliss.

The speaker out of the head feeds the dry cab, and the HH does the wet. I have dry in both cabs. This is typically just a W/D, but I'm going to try the PCM70 pan delays in stereo soon (I need to get a second speaker cable XLR to 1/4 to use with the HHV800.

pretty much my config
except it's either a super champ xd combo or my peacemaker/4x12 as dry rig with the hotplate,

and line out to gforce, to tech 21 power engine loaded with scumback speaker for wet (or a peavey 50/50 bridged mono into an avatar 4x12)

if i want two wet stereo cabs i've used an EV powered speaker as the 2nd cab, or a crate power block in mono into an EV 12L 1x12 cab

In my case my Custom Audio Electronics Amp Selector provides a line signal from my amps to the wet side of the rig.

A Suhr Line out box is a great solution for you to consider

100 watt Einstein with Diezel 412FL V30, Einstein out to a Hafler T3, to Blue Face MXR delay to a Mesa 2x90 into a KnuckleHead slant 4xV30 .
2x90 is way too much for a single wet 4x12. I can make it make it flood.

Nothing like true stereo rig; but how many people actually even can discern house or rig?

I have the core components to run a w/d/w setup and sometimes do when I get bored. Lehle P-Split to VHT to Diezel 2x12 and M4/GMaj2/TBR5 to Sunn4x10 and 4x12. I've also used the P-Split to Line 6 Filter Pro to Randall RM4 to GMaj2 to TBR5 to 4x10 and M4 to TBR5 to 4x12 with interesting results. Once I get the trio of 3rd Power Tri-cabs it will be on.

I'm running the dry head into an old Marshall SE100 attenuator, knocking the level down a bit, then to the dry 412, sending the line out to my effects, then to a Marshall 100/100 pwr amp into 2 412's
Its pretty basic and sounds great, the dry (center) tone is slightly louder than the wet ones, and all the effects are in stereo
The SE100 does shave the top a bit, but you can easily fix it

I know bro...I have just been running a totally dry rig with no effects for a few years now (guitar, cable, amp, cab). I usually just let our sound engineer add delay at the board.

I have always hated what loops and pedals do to my tone so this W/D has been a big breakthrough for me.....once I figured out that it actually worked I was finally happy

As soon as I heard Dave's W/D setup at the amp show last month I was sold.

I run out the line out of my CCV into a TC2290 out to a VHT 2100 Classic to 2 1x12 Cameron Cubes for the wet signal and a Cameron 4x12 for the center dry. Sounds Huge!

So one clarification.., because my hotplate is handling the load from the amp to speaker of dry cab, the line out goes to an effects processor (gmajor2)back into a poweramp and into a sceond 8 ohm cab. There is therefore no need to set the primary amp ohm selector to 4 to handle two 8 ohm cabs because essentially each cab has it's own dedicated poweramp set to 8 ohm. I know this is fairly straightforward but just want to make sure I understand. I'm done with effects loops I think. Don't dig it. Can't get levels to play nice between amp and Gmajor2.

So Brad, what's the 2290 set for? A couple delays?

Todd I can make you the same line out I had at the show. Also as far as I am concerned the matrix power amp I used at the show is better then the HH I have. You heard it. In this kind of setup you have to be concerned with what effect you are using. Old effects have a analog dry path new ones usually don't. With new effects you can have phasing issues if you plan to run dry in the cab. To fix this you would need a mixer. I say go with some old stuff it just sounds better.

I read on here or somewhere that if you are running a 4x12 dry that you only need a 1x12 or at most a 2x12 cab for wet, or w/d/w = (25%/100%/25%) especially if you are mic'n the cabs. Are the 4x12 cabs for wet overkill? And how true is the above?

I find for my own needs at home only that the 1x12 cabs with EVM 12l or MC90 work for me. I had 2 TM212 cabs but they just took up too much space. At the moment I am only using 1 1x12 cab so my set up is w/d but prefer when I have the Wet cabs spread out wide across the room for more effect of ping/pong delay, panning, mod effects etc.

Dave which Matrix amp were you using? I'm considering selling my HHV800 -- it sounds great, but it's a 4 space, heavy beast of an amp.

That VHT 2100 is one large, heavy (56 lbs) unit Brad. It must sound good.
