Both tubes are absolutely great. Can’t say one is better than the other, personally.

77’s have unparalleled mid punch and extended highs. 6CA7’s are scooped and have smooth highs. Nothing bad about either one…

Using my beater LTD EC1000t with a Sunset Strip bridge straight into the amps. Switched with a Mesa Head Track. SM57 on an Eminence Karnivore, into an iRig then into my iPhone.

Damn both fucking rip! I'll listen through better speakers later. I assume the start is KT77, 6CA7 when you switch? I could see prefering either depending on what cab and speakers are in play. I slightly prefer the first (sounds like KT77) with the Karnivore. Some of the best high gain tone I've ever heard a clip of!

That amp sounds freakin great!
I can't decide which tubes I like better.
Every time you switched, I was like " oh yeah, there it is" and then you switch back and its" oh, no wait, that's the sound there" lol!

Fukking incredible job on the amp dude.
I've owned all the big boy amps, and still have a pretty good collection.
Haven't thought about buying another amp in years, but the layout of this amp along with the tones it can produce changes everything.
Just killer!!
:rawk:

Are these both JJ tube offerings that we are hearing? 6CA7's and KT77's?

Prefer the extra thickness of the KT77s, but both sound great.

How do you like the Karnivores? I started pairing one with a Mesa V30 for my V2 Hellion and fucking love it.

The JJ KT77 is the best of the EL34 types today. Even Paul Rivera GOATED the GEC back in the day, of which the JJ is a recreation.

Blessed is Bob Pletka for sacrificing a pair of the GEC's so that the JJ might live on for us.

Hard to pick between those, they both sound great but the edge goes to the 77s for me!
I love them both, but I agree. I tested 77's, 34's, 66's and the 6CA7's in this amp. The 77's just have the perfect EQ and response overall. I can see where a lot of guys will like the 6CA7.

Thanks. This version of the amp really has its own unique sound now. It's not a modded Marshall, not a Marshall/ Mark series hybrid, none of that anymore. It's pretty different than anything else.

Yes, you're correct. 77's first on each riff. The Karnivores really impressed me. I have two on top and two v30's on bottom in this cab.
Yeah .. just grab one with each hehe.
That's exactly what I'm doing with these two amps! I like both that much. And they're so different, even at low volumes.

Because the amp is voiced perfectly...It accentuates the positive characteristic of each pair of tubes
Appreciate that man!

Thanks! I spent around 2 years and countless hours designing this one. It's so fine-tuned in every part of the circuit. I'm really happy with it. I feel it's my best design so far for sure.

Clearly the only solution is a pair of each
I really should try it....

JJ KT77 (love these tubes) and EHX 6CA7

Really like these speakers. 4 of them in a cab is too dark, imo. But mixed with 2 v30's is a great combo. I use them in my workshop cab. They tame the harsh highs that I get in this room with nothing but hard surfaces.

This is a great response and congratulations on enjoying the fruits of your labor producing the desired result/outcome.

It's so sweet when we earn it with effort!
