Craving H3000 pitch shift tones and I’ve heard the H9 can get close or do it exactly, but what does RT say?

I’m not against getting an H3000 and I have the ability to repair it outside of catastrophic damage, but the cost of them these days is nuts. Plus I worry about gig reliability.

Can a MD-500 do eventide pitch shifting?

I know the MD-500 can do detune pitchshifting like a H910/H949 and the micropitch of the H3000 if that is what you are asking. The clips sound pretty good I don't know how closely the algorithms are to Eventides.

I would say get an Eventide Pitchfactor, it can do W/D or W/D/W as well. The MD-500 can also do W/D or W/D/W if you're looking to save a few bucks. If not the I would consider the Pitchfactor or the H-9. I don't know if a single H-9 can do the double +9 cent -9 cent micropitch for W/D/W.

I seem to remember someone saying that you need two H-9's for that...I don't know maybe someone with an H-9 can clarify. I have been quite happy with my Pitchfactor for W/D/W EVH balance micropitch detune.

Look up ACEV on the board here he posted some clips of his W/D/W with the MD-500 doing EVH micropitch. It sounded good to me.

I’m not trying to put together a super expensive setup. It’s for my rack with an alesis quad/SPX90II/PCM81. I have a damage control timeline for delays and need something for good quality pitch detune.

I’m thinking the MD-500 would do what I need. It can also cop really good Roland dimension D tones too which makes it that more useful in the rig and not single tone specific. I’m not so much into chasing EVH tones myself just like the sound of the H3000 if that makes sense?

The H3000 sounds bitchin. When pursuing tone, one should not let price enter their mindset. Is there a price too high in the pursuit of tone? I would have to say no, as I try to satiate the hunger for amazing tone at any cost. Why? Because once epic tone is achieved, all one must do is strike that first chord and it’s all worth the pursuit and journey. As the chord rings out, a feeling of peace, profound satisfaction, and loss looms heavily. The loss symbolizes the end and beginning of the chase. You have now miraculously achieved epic tonez. What’s left to do? Duh….. it’s now time to start the pursuit all over again for your rig number 2. But it must be a different kind of amp and no pieces of gear can be repeated from epic rig number 1. As this dawns upon you, a new excitement takes hold of you, and the chase begins afresh!

For the price I think they sound very very good and I don't think it would disappoint you. I have been extremely happy with my Boss DD-500 with it's excellent echoplex and SDE3000 delays. I can't imagine the MD-500 being inferior to the DD-500.

Is the user interface of the DD-500 as easy to use as the eventide pitchfactor? That’s one reason I don’t want an H9

I have not used the MD-500 but my DD-500 interface is easy to navigate and setup. I would imagine the MD-500 is similar at making changes to the settings and pull up user made preset banks. Why don't you PM ACEV and ask him since he owns a MD-500? I'm sure he'd be happy to help he seemed like a good dude.

If it helps any, I use a Boss Core whose detune/micropitch is presumably shared with the MD500, and it gets the sound I'm after, which are generally sounds that had eventide micropitch shifting involved

I have a pair of H9’s and they are my always on pedals. I use one for micro pitch. For guitar I think the H9 can do the micropitch as well as the old H3000. I don’t think you’d be missing anything.

If you just want micropitch, I’d recommend the Eventide MicroPitch Delay pedal. I have one and love it, has all the sounds from the Hx series. Cheaper, can easily be adjusted on the pedal or use the usb connection and their software.

Remember if your going to gig with that ya have to run in parallel or yer gonna get dropout. I've been using a 7500 cause it was cheaper than the 3000 and it nails the pitch shift but has some other really sweet algo's in it. Dont forget about the Pitchfactor pedal also. You have the spx and between those two you should be able to get KILLER shift tones. The 3000 is a great unit but if yer just looking for pitch shift I would go cheaper.

You like the sound of the eventide pitch shifting over the SPX90?
Stand-alone I do. SPX90II does one thing only that other units can replicate but never duplicate. Symphonic. It’s essential for some Ozzy covers I like to play. For cleans I want to double up and send the MD-500 or eventide into the SPX90 or quad to double up on choruses for cleans. The PCM81 is only for reverbs. Yes it can do more but the stock algorithms are all that I need.

Yeah I am still trying to decide what I’m going to do about parallelizing these with some option to have more or less of a wet control on demand. I thought about having just a lot of Samson channels and switching in mix levels I want, but not sure yet. It will all be controlled with a GCX setup. Again this isn’t meant to be a max effort rack, just a great library of on demands.

If you are going into the SPX90, have you considered an Eclipse?
I have and honestly if I’m spending that kind of money I would just go with a larger eventide rack unit.

I think the boss MD-500 would do all that I need and more. It could do Roland dimension D and also do a great micropitch as linked in the video above. Not looking to spend a lot of money and love that it’s all stereo.

I could do a boss waza dimension D pedal and an eventide micropitch pedal, but the boss MD-500 seems good enough for both and is midi which removes a channel on my GCX.

I guess it would come down to price then... The MD-500 is $379.00 and it does alot of other modulations and choruses that the Eventide Pitchfactor doesn't and the Pitchfactor is $499.00. If you would like the other modulations that the MD-500 does give it a whirl, if you buy from Sweetwater you could return it if you really don't like it. The only thing I don't like about the micro pitch pedal is I can't set an exact cent amounts of detune like .999cents 1 cent or 9 cent with those knobs, to me it looks like a approximation since there is no digital readout unless I am mistaken about it?

Still the micropitch is a great sounding pedal for $250.0 bucks.

Those clips that ACEV posted I thought they sounded great. The only other one would be the Eventide Micropitch pedal and it also doesn't have all the modulation effects available that the MD-500 does. I went with the pitchfactor because I wanted the Eventide H919 and H3000 algorithms which probably was somewhat superficial.

The more I’m looking into this doing comparisons I’m noticing an odd top end to the MD-500 that isn’t characteristic to eventides. I know YouTube is bad about sucking out quality recordings but I even hear it with other comparisons to the MD-500.

I might just have to go either micropitch or pitchfactor to keep the eventide tonal footprint and just get a boss waza dimension C pedal for that Roland effect without having to go to a Klark which is cheaper but requires 2 rack space.

That’s a good point that the micropitch doesn’t have exact cent settings. For this rig I’m not sure I care feature wise though? I just want it to sound good and add what it’s supposed to without removing what it’s not supposed to. Chorus effect wise I don’t need CE-2 emulation or other effects really, since the rack covers everything else so that’s another strike against the MD-500.

I think I’d be happier with either a micropitch, pitchfactor, and just getting a waza dimension c for the Roland sde sound.

Now that you mentioned it, the MD-500 does seem a little thin on the top end., it doesn't sound crappy but.... I agree it's probably a wise choice going with Eventide that way you know you getting THE Eventide sound.:2thumbsup:
