Had a wake up call of reality today. LP content.

Ok... I'll cop to it.... I had SERIOUS LP gas... but I didn't want to spend the money to buy a real one since I can't seem to play them, so...

I bought a well built Les Paul Custom Black Beauty copy that came from China and I've completely gutted it. I'm putting in Grover locking tuners, brass nut, black Aldrich pickup set, all new electronics, tone pros locking bridge and tail piece. Gonna do it up in chrome with chrome pickup covers and a chrome pick guard like Sykes LP... BTW - I had most of this stuff laying around doing nothing...

Giving the Les Paul thing one more chance because I love the way they sound... I hope I can play this one or I'm done...

I'm so ashamed...

Just saw this posted on another board. Apparently, this is what the inside of the new '08 Standards looks like...

PCB Les Pauls sound worse than the PTP ones   :D

Not sure I am digging this or not, looks easier to change pups unless you nuke one of the traces with too much heat and lift a trace............not that would suck.

Way easier to mass manufacture though, just drop the board in and tap tap your done.

Well i went into a different Guitar Center today and played another Traditional LP Goldtop. Gibson is 2 for 2 on these guitars. It was setup just right and it sounded great. The action was perfect and it even had a Pleked sticker on the pickup. It was $2189 so i guess that's not too bad a price. I was never into Goldtops but now i have a serious boner for one.

I did play 2 Goldtop Classics and didn't like either one. I don't like those slim flat necks on the LP Classics.

Also, a local store where i have bought a lot of stuff from has an early 90's natural top LP STandard with Gold Hardware. And it's not too heavy. The action was almost too low, when i played it unplugged it sounded a little screatchy, plugged in though it was fine. I only played it on one of those terrible Bogner/Line 6 pieces of garbage. That guitar has my interest as well.

I definitely have a LP fetish!

LOL! That pictures looks like it's taken right out of my gear history books! :) I love "traditional" colors and it doesn't get any classier than the three LPs you have right there. Beautiful!

Yeah, i like all three. Funny how i like Goldtops all of a sudden. Probably because i like that one in GC soo much. And probably because you don't have to overpay for a pretty top.

I guess I'm getting old. All i seem to look at now is Strats and Pauls. :D The last thing i want to play is a "metal" style guitar with points.

Thanks guys!

BTW, my favorite of the three is the Goldtop. It's a 2001 Historic & believe it or not, it has a flame top that you can see through the finish if you hold it at an angle!

I have owned 4 les pauls, each one sounded fantastic but I couldnt play it for love or money.

Give me a strat with a humbucker any day of the week

Does gibson still make a paul that isn't weight relieved? I may have missed it if someone mentioned it in this thread but I've played a lot of current production pauls and it seems like compared to the heavy cinderblock versions of old, these weight relieved models also feature a little tone relief as well.
I have one that was made in 93 and Im not sure if it was weight relieved or not but it is definitely not as heavy as the older LP's but it sounds killer. I have found that I prefer the 93-94 LP's and those are the only ones that I would buy.

Check dis out.

I almost started a thread yesterday about how I always gravitate towards the "traditional" type of gear. Les Pauls, Strats, Teles, 335s (never owned one, but I want one), Marshall, analog pedals, minimal rack gear (if any at all), etc... I've always been like that for some reason. I guess because I grew up wishing I was playing in the late '60s through the '70s. That was the prime time for rock music in my opinion and I really wish I was around. I was a 13/14 year old kid with a Les Paul Studio with nothing but bright pointy guitars with Floyd Rose bridges all around me. lol...

LOL, I'm the same way really, and I'm a fair bit younger   Those are THE four types of guitars as far as I'm concerned, btw.

True, however it sees the least play time, just can't bring myself to sell it as I wouldn't get a lot for it from what I've seen. Its a great guitar for what it is, but doesn't do it for me like more traditional types of guitars.

My 2003 LP sounds and feels great.
It's always been my favorite guitar. The tone is huge!!!!
