"Handwired" 4 Watt Vox AC4......

I have one of the Vietnam AC4 hand wired models (the fawn tolex) they did a while back. I like it but I don’t love it. My buddy played it at my wedding so it has a lot of sentimental value. I was chasing a British ac30 I played for a tan pants gig and that was all I could afford that was “hand wired b00tique”. In the hot mode it does a thing that reminds of Foo Fighters.

I’d assume with that intro price they are counting on dealers chopping 10-15% new. Used $650 probably fair enough. FWIW the turret board on mine looks great. It’s no Suhr SL wiring job but it’s nice.

I've only tried the AC4 and AC10. The 10 is better but still pretty underpowered and mostly a practice/rehearsal amp. Guy who let me use them gigged with the 10 mic'ed through the mains and had it up in the air near his head. Everybody says there are some loud 30 watt amps but everything seems like a toy compared to a 100 watt half stack.
I think I could manage 100 watts pretty well and you have a point but those 30 watt AC30s IMO feel a hell of a lot louder than 30 watts I feel and as loud as a twin or any stack. Dont know if its the heavier transformers but they definitely move a lot of air IME.

And also I figure its a cheap way of havig a solid AC preamp to slave since its got an fx loop......... cheap way of getting a higher powered AC if you have a seperate power platform along with it as an amp platform already.

100 watts with 4x12 closed back is a lot different than 100 watt combo 2x12 open back in terms of perceived volume. My son has an OSHA dB gauge app on his phone that clocked my Twin with transients reaching 136dB one foot from the speakers. It still seems like a toy compared to the 100w plexi/greenback cab I had before it. I could bury a loud drummer with that thing.

I wish there were more kit builds options like from Mojotone on Vox amps like the AC4 and AC10 SRT. They have an AC15.

I am following a thread on TGP on these new Vox amps and there is talk of the new AC10 HW having a transistor as one of the gain stages.
I looked up the specs and sure enough, only 2 12AX7s and the TB needs 3 gain stages, so that means one has to be SS just like the AC10C1
