any of you guys have one, what's the deal with them?

I've played one. Best thing about it is the ultra slim neck through... great for shredding, a bit too slim near the nut for chords. Try before you buy

my understanding was that they had trouble getting Kahler's, so they put Floyd's on them for a period of time

yeah that sounds right, want to get a hanneman just not sure if I will like a kahler.

I've yet to hear someone who actually plays Hanneman's lead parts like Hanneman himself. The Kahler has that freaky yo-yo type whammy sound. If Hanneman's your thing, you need a Kahler.

Hanneman is what Tipton was for Judas Priest, and KK Downing is Kerry King, total second fiddle to the master.

I liked hanneman's solos more than Kerry but I don't like either enough to have another Kahler. I'm not a Floyd rose guy either but I would consider a Floyd guitar. With a Kahler it's an automatic no

My thoughts exactly

I have 3 of them with Kahlers. Don't think I'll ever buy another Floyd.

The older ones have a more normal nut width, ish, where the newer ones do tend to get a little narrow/er. The neck is like a race car.

That said, about the OP, the Floyd version just makes the guitar what a Hammett model wishes it was.

I had a 1986 Jackson Soloist with a Kahler and loved it. Same with my buddy's G&L Invader with a Kahler. Best feeling trems ever made. They are really smooth compared to a Floyd imo.

this.

I’d personally avoid Kahler

Floyd FTW. Stability aside, Floyds just plain sound better

Since we're talking about Hannys, I just did this today.

There must be some old Kahlers out there that had issues and harmed their rep, because the 4 that I've owned on ESPs were all perfect, and I personally also prefer their tremolo sound. I REALLY prefer how low I can set my action because the string height doesn't change with bends. And the other string pitches don't significantly change with vibrato. And the stability is perfect. And the tone is huge. And it leaves the wood in the body. And...

cool video, nice hanny's.
the black ones sounded very similar to me with the camo sounding less tight and bigger.
my hanneman gas is going through the roof now.

Thanks. In the room the difference is huge- the 2006 black eagle is a snarly mix cutting insane animal. The 2008 black Hohenstaufen is very balanced & yet grindy and tight. The 2013 Camo one is darker & thicker- it's also the heaviest of the three. They are from different years & I have to imagine the wood supply was different.

This....
Always will be a Floyd guy, but..I found an 84 Charvel HSS with a Kahler, and immediately figured on sending it out to GMW for a refin and a Floyd. But, for the first time I've found a Kahler that stays in tune no matter WHAT I do. And, the tone is just so FAT and FULL that I'd hate to lose that with the conversion to a Floyd. The other 4 guitars I've had over the yrs that had a Kahler all had tuning issues. Put some steel rollers in and its just as 'snappy' as my other USA Charvel with a Floyd.

Nice vid Jeremy!
