I don't wear these anymore, (my dress blues), but will still put my life on the line for our country, and our freedoms! And for those of you that have served, all branches, and your family members, have a great Veteran's Day!

I learned the value of hard work, how to be a good boss, how to make stuff happen...and am still so very proud to have served my great country. Thanks to all the rest of you who have served. And to my fellow Americans, it was truly my pleasure.

Yup....big shout out to those that served as well.
I did 13 years active duty in the Navy and am proud of every moment to get a chance to serve.

PC1(SW) Meagher, Dan J
US NAVY
1991-2004

And I did come across an old pic of Rottingcorpse back when he was active duty as well.
Keeping it in my scrapbooks.

Ever on Okinawa during that time? I spent 9 years there on and off during my enlistments.

No, I was on my way for a 3 yr accompanied tour, and the EX... decided she didn't want to go, or want me either, so that was the end.. Single dad, had to find another employer, I would have done 20, but she screwed it up..

Yeah being married in the Military is tough. Like I was told from the beginning.

"Ships are ment to be at sea....not tied to a Pier!"

and the classic...

"If the military wanted you to have a wife you would of been issued one in your sea bag!"

It was a rough time....but some of the best times I have ever had. Still keep in touch with some buds I was stationed with.

Hell, I think the hardest part was boot camp, after that it was no problem, I was at HMH-464 in NC, CH-53E helicopters, we worked hard, played hard, best times of my life, wouldn't do anything different. I was on the USS WASP for a couple of months. We went to Norway.. in January.. BRRRRR.. nice ship though. What sucked was flying around at 180 knots wit a 50 cal out the window, and no heat. Don't ever want to do THAT again!

How about 30 to 40 foot swells off the Coast of Alaska in December. Ship being thrown around like a cork in a bathtub. I thought for sure it was going to snap in half and we were joining Davy Jones at his locker.
Never been so scared shitless in my life.
All you heard was guys screaming and metal of the ship creaking. It was......ummm....an adventure that gives me nightmares to this day still. :aww:

Yeah, I forgot about that!! We ran into a huge storm, cracked the island of the ship.. sleepin in a "coffin" strapped in your rack just to keep from falling out, man, that SUCKED! We went out in 2 man teams to make sure the aircraft were strapped down, tied to each other, pad eye to pad eye, 120 mph winds. 40 ft swells, good times!

Thing was there were already rust holes in the skin of the ship. Water leaking all over the place.
Navys way of cleaning up a mess or fixing rust? Paint over it!!  Our whole ship was rolling 180 degrees.
I swear to god I thought it was going to roll over. You would be laying on the floor one minute....then up on the ceiling the next. Fun stuff. :D
