Looking for something slammin for one of my Pauls, I have an Aldrich in my black Paul and really like just looking for a slightly different sound for my Goldtop. Something big and slammin, not to old school sounding but not like a metal only pup.

My favorite Les Paul pickups are the Duncan P-Rails- holy shit what a great pickup! And the Screamin' Demon. Great PAF with a serious tude.

james,

the rio bbq has gotten good reviews from people using them in lp's. i have one in an all-mahog guitar and it sounds pretty sweet

I had a Rio Grande BBQ in my LP, sounded great. A coil went out, and I sent it back to Rio for repair. In the interim I put a WB Fire and Water in, now this is a great rock pickup. Thick bottom, real crunchy, SWEET top end. Not a distortion p/u, but its got a good bit of volume, the Rio may have to find another guitar to be in.

+1 on the Motor City Afwayu. Great pickup! Splits well, cleans up well and really smokes. Tolrques or Blissters would be suitable too.

I'd say either the Motor City Afwayus or the Bareknuckle Pickups Rebel Yells. I've had both in my Heritage Les Paul, and BOTH smoked!

The Dean USA "Vinie Moore" PU won best PU at MusicMesse for 2009. I have one in a guitar I and love it.

What would you say sonically made them different?

The Afwayu isn't a distortion pup? I'm not looking for a metal pup that sounds sterile.

Anderson H2+

What's it sound like? What's the output?
It has enough output to slam an amp nicely, but it's not an extremely high output pickup...powerful yet articulate. It's pretty evenly balanced across the frequencies with a big, tight bottom, punchy mids, and a smooth high end response. It also clean up nicely when you back off the volume...very dynamic. It's been my favorite pickup going back to '88.

From the Anderson website:

H 1 A very open sound with vintage output. Elliot Easton of the Cars used his on the song "Tonight She Comes". We especially like this one in the neck position to balance against a super hot bridge pickup. $99.00

H 1- With a little more clarity than the H1, this is our most popular neck position humbucking. It matches well when using our "Yellow-Hot Output" pickups in the bridge position. $99.00

H 1+ This is a slightly hotter, thicker version of the H1. An open, clear sounding bridge pickup or for added thickness in the neck position. $99.00

H01+ The HO1+ is the Anderson version of an original humbucker tone with vintage output. Great for a clear, musical bridge tone. $125.00

H01- A neck pickup to sonically balance with the HO series bridge pickups or other “Yellow-Hot Output” pickups. $125.00

H02 For a little thicker, slightly more powerful bridge tone than the HO1+. $125.00

H2 One of our all time favorites for a medium hot bridge sound. It’s clear and open without being harsh. $99.00

H2+ This is our most popular bridge pickup and is ordered in guitars by more players than any other. Exceptionally smooth and rich with more mid and bottom than the H2. $99.00

HN2+ Hot as an H3, but with a more focused mid than the H2+ or H3. $125.00

H3 Our original super hot pickup. This is the pickup used for developing, testing and insuring the great tonal quality of Mesa Boogie amplifiers. The sound is open, not muddy, but with rich, full mid and bottom end tone. $99.00

H3+ With even more output and increased bottom end response than the H3, this pickup still sings musically and clearly. $99.00

HN3 A very hot patented pickup with increased mid-range concentration, it is very articulate without sacrificing power. This is Vivian Campbell's favorite bridge pickup. $125.00

HN3+ Affectionately nicknamed "the Flamethrower" for even more output and a little less upper midrange than the HN3. $125.00
