Just wondering if anyone here has tried a Friedman modded amp that has the HBE mod against a Randall MTS module that has had Dave's mod. Since he is doing the mod it's not really a replica it's Dave's mod. How do they compare? I was playing through my modded HBE module tonight and actually really digging it. My RM 100 has EL34's so how close is it?

I'd like to know this too as a fellow MTS user! I would suspect "not that similar" as Lynch probably would have used his lynchbox and endorsement more had he been using modules that were tweaked to sound like the MArsha's he plays instead now.. maybe someone can chyme in.

I would be more than willing to send my HBE module to anyone with a Friedman modded amp who has a Randall also in order to do the shootout.

Why don't we post in the Friedman section of the forum and see what he says?

ibenhad did you ever do that shootout between your xtc modules and the real thing...I think it was you who said he was gonna post results of this.

SJK - Posted this over on HCAF a month ago. Quick and dirty. May do more soon.

This should work without having to log in. I need to work on a better and longer version. Just threw a quick beat on the DR670 and tried to play the same thing 4 times. Gives an idea.

PRS - Amps - Avatar 2x12 with Texas Heats - MXL R40 Ribbon - Pro Tools Digi 001....

Oh yeah the lineup - Ecstasy Classic .01-.45 - Salvation Ecstasy .55-1.40 - Sacred Groove XTC LE 1.52-2.36 - Stock Randall XTC 2.40-3.21

Amp all controls on 12 oclock and same on all modules.... Just really a good baseline for sound of them all.

Isn't there an egnator module as well? I wonder how that compares as well.

I have not tried the preamps, so I can't comment on them, but the RM100 I have, did have some decent sounds, it was by far the noisiest high gain amp I've played. I also thought you compromise the feel of a real amp to have the flexibility that these offer. These 2 issues were what led me to move away from these amps. I have played most of the amps that they make in module form, and some of the mods sound good, I don't think they really sound like the real amp. YMMV.

My RM100 was really noisy when I brought it home. I replaced V1 and now it is very quiet, even with high gain modules.

What did you use in place of v1?

Just an EH 12AX7. The stock tube was microphonic.

I have not seen an Egnator version of the XTC but I don't doubt there is one. I just have the real amp and the 3 modules I used.
