I don't see how it can have problems unless your three year old is chewing away at the wire. I've used my monoprice hdmi for over a year now and have not had any issues at all.
There was actually a test of a bunch of HDMI cable makers, and they all had the exact same picture quality, whether it was a $10 cable or $100 cable, they were all the same. It's a huge myth that the spendy HDMI cables are better.

Don't feel too bad, I let the sales bot at Best Buy talk me into the Monster power conditioner for my HDTV. That was a $400 lesson I won't ever forget...

I just moved recently and the cable guy told me the need for clean power is one thing but not nessesary.
