Anyone familiar with the amp switcher by metro amps or any other amp switchers?

I've used the Radial Tonebone and the Palmer Ptinos.
Both units are approx. 9,5" and can be remote controlled (with a standard switch from the pedal board or something).
I do like the Palmer better soundwise (better iso transformers) and I still have it.
Both devices do not like it, when you run time based fx in the loop of the amp(s) you're switching though (delay).
If you must run delay(s) in the loop(s) you need soething like Ampete's Switcher (available for two or even 4 heads) which also are able to switch loops/fx simult.

I use the Morley Lynch Tripler with 3 amps, works well, built solid.

I also have a MoJoTone AB/Y that is a great pedal.

I just sold my Metropoulos Head Master to another RT'er a few days ago. It works perfectly, but I just decided I was never going to gig with it and didn't need it for home use either. But it's not an A/B/Y switcher like the Morley Lynch Tripler. The Head Master is for using two heads with one cabinet. George built it so he could test his builds against his original Marshalls side by side with just a footswitch. The HM puts a load on the head not in use. The issue for me was that it only switched heads. If I wanted my pedals to work with both heads, I'd have needed another switcher for the loops or another pedal board altogether.

If you're going to run two or three amps or halfstacks, a HM is not what you need. A simple A/B/C/Y switcher will work for you.

yep, these are about as good as it gets. i have one of the 222's. easy set up and MIDI switching with no lag. run a master loop through it that switches with the amp or run stereo.

Do they have a stateside dealer? I can't seem to find their products in an online store and the ampere 221 is exactly what I need!

They do: www.tonemerchants.com

You can also order from them directly.

Tone Merchants. I ordered mine direct from them in Germany.

Of course.

Keep in mind that it must be just a small valued resistor. When the input is switched simult. with the output of an amp, there's no signal going thru the amp thus only a small load is needed. In case the unit allows to use delays in the loop (as the ampete does) there has to be a sufficient load of course.

Do you use the line-out for W/D/W? I ordered the 444 and intend to use it that way. My assumption is that you can get the dry going, and have the same signal on the line out for the other 2 cabs downstream with a stereo power amp.

Do the Ampete switchers run a load on the amps that are not connected to the speakers - I'm assuming that the answer is yes but I just wanted to check?

Thanks

Ross

They claim they do in their docs if I read them correctly; however, I personally feel safer know that a cable and a speaker are attached. I think if no cable is inserted it will not make that output available for use anyway....but again verify on your own. Their manuals are available from their site.

I have the Ampete 444 and I love it, but I don't really need the fx loop because I use it only in my studio. It's great to be able to switch between 4 amps with my MFC 101 while switching my pedals with my RJM gizmo. I might be checking out the Kahagan 8 x 4 amp speaker selector because I have 8 amps and I would like to be able to switch between all of them. I did a lot of testing and the Ampete doesn't affect the tone at all.

You could also get the 88S Studio. It's about the same price as the 444.
