He'd plug into a toaster and make it sound great.

Yes, I've said this as well about great players when they're doing a gear demo. But what are we saying? Do we want to hear shitty players doing all the gear demo's? There's more than enough "Wizards" out there making demo's that might make an amp or guitar sound like poo poo. :D

He is explaining a previous thread about Ola perhaps?

I like those vids, I hate good amps that sound bad becuase of the user or the camera.

But at the same time my ideal clips are well recorded, non mixed "raw" guitar tracks.

I think some people just have both the ear and the gear to Make lots of stuff sound great or minimize any suck factor Excellent guitars pickups mics cabs etc. ola for example dials in most stuff to sound like him, most of the demos I have heard him do are just slight different shades of his sound. So I think that sometimes a great player with great gear can make demos that may not necessarily represent what everyone's results would be. and of course someone Like Pete who's playing is stellar, you not only hear his ability to record and demo gear, but also his tasty chops. In most ways it's great cause you are hearing gear how it can sound. Just average joe may have differing mileage. Sometimes I like also hearing crappy demos cause it shows how it can sound bad too :-)

Agreed. Great players seem to know how to get a good sound (ears) and have it in their playing as well (well).

For a demo I want a good recording, I want some open chords, and some decent line runs. It would be great if signal was dry and as little talk as possible.

Yea thats the worst, 10 minutes of talking and then a couple notes and clip is over.

No one wants to hear your voice, just play the damn amp lol.

absolultey a mixed clip with other instruments is pointless, I love Ola too but his demos all sound the same unless its the raw guitars, no low pass high pass compression bs..

yes people argue that, some say all the post production lets you hear what the amp can really do, some disagree.

Thankfully he was kind enough to do both. He does have alot of raw guitar videos out there.

Thanks Ola!!!!

I like them both in all honesty, but if a clip came to be the deciding factor of a purchase id want raw...

And no, has nothing to do with Ola, and yes he makes everything sound great for that metal sound.

Maybe this guy should be the official amp demo guy?

But then all anyone would ever want is a DOD Grunge pedal, which would be a step up from that tone.

I like Ola's clips and I hear the differences, have to listen closely though.

The bogner dude kills

It sounds like he is using his neck pup..Only there is no neck pup

And that's exactly it. Take Ola for example. When he plays a low end, crappy amp... it sounds like a low end, crappy amp when it is raw. But when he mixes it the end result sounds pretty good and you get the toaster oven comments.

Most of the time when I'm trying to find a nice demo video, it's hard to find something that's not overly shreddy, or dropped tune chugga chugga. Example, I know the Diezel Herbert does metal/shred, there's a hundred videos of that on youtube. What I wanna know is what else it can do?

Of course, I'm too lazy to make demo videos for others possible benefit, so I guess I can't complain. I did one awhile back of a Bogner Shiva 6L6 and it got a lot of hits because it was the only non EL34 one out there at the time. I fnally deleted it though because the playing sucked ass & I actually hated the way it sounded on camera and didn't want to be associated with that! :D

I don't know why I'm even posting any of this. Probably because I'm bored and waiting for the cableguy to show, and that New Van Halen thread isn't quite generating the bloodshed I'd expected.....

I prefer average playing for demo's and not either of the two extremes.

Average recording of the clip, not the crappy camera's but not overly produced and/or studio polished.

Not this vid again... As with the first time I saw it, I still don't get what it is that's actually going on here. What is he trying to do and why does it sound like that?
