I listen to clips for entertainment. Never ever bought an amp or gear off a clip. The way the amp reacts with the player is very individual.

Add in the various guitar factor... An amp to me should be able to sell itself on an open D chord strum for great crunch. Like getting to a concert early and watching the sound guy dial in the guitar tone.

Great clips on here do two things... Gas for more crap I don't need or have time to play, and realize I need practice way more than gear....

But at the same time my ideal clips are well recorded, non mixed "raw" guitar tracks.
I think this is essential. I understand a great player minimizing the "suck factor" with their skill, etc but I think minimizing the amp's downfalls by use of a well mixed backing track isn't the best presentation of the amp. I mean if you're using it to record a song, by all means, but if the purpose is to demo the amp in terms of its individual tone capabilities then I think it should be a quality-non-mixed raw guitar track.

This isn't a shot at anyone though. I absolutely adore Ola's music, demos, posts, etc.

Clips aren't really any good unless Rebecca Dirks is interviewing the player.

Example, I know the Diezel Herbert does metal/shred, there's a hundred videos of that on youtube. What I wanna know is what else it can do?

I wonder how many kids walk out of Guitar Center bitching that the amp they just tried didn't sound anything like the demo that Ola did?

It amazes me that people actually use clips to make any kind of judgement of anything ... Let alone gear. It might show a little of what it can do and a little of what sounds it can do. It has very little to do with how it will react to your playing.

And no, has nothing to do with Ola, and yes he makes everything sound great for that metal sound.

Maybe this guy should be the official amp demo guy?

Not this vid again... As with the first time I saw it, I still don't get what it is that's actually going on here. What is he trying to do and why does it sound like that?
Im wondering how gay he'd look with that bc rich in the back

I use clips with the feedback of the guy providing the clip if I know him. Having known some guys for many years I know when they talk about feel I know where they are coming from. THat is why it is cool to see or hear people play, has nothing to do with what kind of chops they have. Anyone can read a review but if you do not know where the guy is coming from the typed stuff is useless imo.

I often have to make decisions from research and any clips I can find, because 9 times out of 10, I can't go try things first hand, non of the music stores I have been close to ever carry anything much more then marshall vox and fender. and usually more of the cheaper stuff. oh and line 6

When I make clips, 99% of the time there is zero processing on them. I mean like, nothing. At all. One reason I think my clips actually sound different clip to clip. At least that is what I try to do.

I agree .... if you are some what familiar with the gear you can see what others can do with it. Also being somewhat familiar with where the player is coming from makes a lot of difference.

If there is nothing else what else can you do ..... But we all know clips and right in front of you are not going to give you the same experience. No matter what it is.

Bingo!

Agreed, there are way too many buzzsaw demos, like the one Danyeo posted above...not good. I don't even care if a speaker is mic'd up honestly, because that's just one more thing that people mess up. I don't want to hear a 57 placed directly dead center of the dust cap and get my head ripped off, or 5 inches off the edge of the cone, then bad post processing to try to cover it up.

Sometimes a good, high quality camera mic or a field recorder/handheld recorder is the best thing. It captures some of the room and you can get a good idea of how the amp actually sounds in the room, and you hear the wood of the cab, etc. Not just speaker sizzle...

And yes, talking in demos is unnecessary. Maybe a few short words here and there, but Christ, just PLAY!!!
