On a whim I decided to yank out from the closet the my 8ohm rear loaded Bogner Uber cab I had for sale and DAMN !!!

The Helios just blew up into a different amp all together than what I was hearing last night.

It REALLY loves the Bogner cab like 10x better than the VHT or the Friedman cab.

I was able to do what I could not seem to do last night... Set the knobs on the amp and just play...

This amp was really impressing me to the bone tonight.

It felt either way too stiff last night or to harsh in the high end... It was thick, bouncy and smooth as butter through the Bogner cab

Not as compressed as the Friedman but like it didn't matter the legatto was flowing...

That's because the bogner cab is stuffed full of batting and is killing the high end... maybe the Helios is no more magic than any other Marshall out there that is too bright for some and harsh for others? Run a JCM800 through that cab and see if it does the same thing I say! Until then... still very much the honeymoon and some cause for alarm when I read "too stiff", "too harsh"....

Just shows that cabs make a HUGE difference in tone. I am positive that VHT cab sounds totally different with the PE-50's compared to the bogner.

Do you actually have the p50 in the VHT?

I find them a bit mellow or even darker than the 75/30 combo I kept in mine.

I was kind of surprised to read that the ubercab tamed the highs.

I actually compared a D412 with 75/30 against an ubercab and I found the über had more of a high end sizzle than the VHT.

I knew GAS could be a serious disease
But you just invented Bipolar GAS
Congratulations

The cab makes a big difference with this amp as i have always had uber cabs on hand as they seem to work real wlll with certain amps.

I just tried it with the Friedman and It is has more woof and a loser bottom end. It sounds really good but I still like the Friedman with the matching cab.

I'm liking what I am hearing so much that I'm now feel inspired to do a Helios clip later tonight.

lol... no, all this is for the sale!

Thank you for your wonderful comment...

Selling this amp or any amp is the least of my worries or concerns. People will buy it regardless of how
i personally feel about it..

I'm all about if I like the amp or not at the end of the day and if it is worth keeping it around.

The amp is really much more to my tastes with the bogner cab, i was more than surprised when playing both last night and this morning.

I was just joking with you... I know how you feel.. been there

Sorry to burst your "tip bubble" but not all guitars/amps/cabs inspire me the exact same way for playing feel and creativity.

Some definitely do much more than others...

Not sure why you are getting your balls busted over your uncertainty.
Props for having dropped so much in the last couple of weeks on these boutique beasts.
I guess you'll dial the amps in as close to your sound as you can and then decide over time which fits better.

On the clips so far, I hear a low mid scoop to the Helios, with no compression, and lots of low end.
I would compare it to VH 'Balance'.
Your clip to compare to the BE will be very useful to those looking over the fence.

I never really wanted this to be this and "over the top" comparison between these two amps but I guess it's only natural as both builders are really awesome at what they do...

I have found that if I go into my gear room and start playing all my amps from one to another, swapping out guitars and cabs by the time I am all done I want to sell all my shit...

This is most likely because I have jacked up the "tone print" in my brain too much over such a short time span that finally nothing sounds good or right any more in my head...

It's a side effect and the fallout from excessive gear fiending... :hys:

I'm very sure other people have had a similar experience when you have several amps, cabs, guitars, pickups, etc...

I think I got the Friedman first and had a couple of weeks or so to spend time it so it is the current "feel and tone" rolling around in my head making it sort of a "first choice" to some degree over the Helios.

The Bogner cab I had tucked away downstairs really matched up well with this amp much more (duh) and makes me a lot more excited about the amp than I was when I first got it.

I am going to try and do a clip tonight as the amp is really a great amp.

As for busting my balls, I guess what ever floats peoples boat...

I just got a Shiva 20th and it really wakes up at loud volumes. Its on a Bogner 4x12 with 30s. For lower volumes an Od pedal helps. Bogner seem made for V30s but I would love to try some Greenbacks.

The batting shouldn't kill high end. It serves to make the cab acoustically larger. Time = distance = volume. The batting increases the time it takes for a sound wave to travel through it, hit the back panel of the cab, reflect, travel through the batting again, and disperse outward. The longer it takes a sound wave (at a given frequency) to travel between two points, the larger the distance between those points, and the "bigger" the cab's volume appears. Does it also kill highs as a side effect? That I don't know for sure.

Why Bogner doesn't just make a bigger, oversized cab is beyond me, though.
