So i'm really into getting myself an oldschool hotrod superstrat. So far i'v narrowed it down to a Charvel San Dimas or a Luxxtone Marchete 22.

I want one in cream white, and would prefer a reversed headstock with a maple neck.

How does the MIJ Charvels compare to the very very sexy looking Luxxtones?

I don't know much about part caster-Charvels.. where would be a good place to start, if you wanna build one out of vintage parts?

I´d throw GMW in the mix, as well. Made a lot of business filling the need for custom old-school hot rods when Charvel was in hibernation, so they know that area damn well. Pretty affordable for what you get, too.

I dont like the headstocks :-/

I'm not much help on the Charvel side, but you can't go wrong with a Luxxtone.

Cream white body and reverse headstock... oh yeah

These bodies are hard to find...
I was planning on getting myself a Fender Squier Vintage Modified 70's Strat in that colour (250$), which has a basswood body, then get a custom made Warmoth neck w/ reverse headstock and customize the electronics. It just takes time, patience and a bit of skills. If you want a floyd rose though, things are a bit more complicated ;)

I think these are really two different markets. Instead of the MIJ Charvels, take a look at the Charvel custom shop, they will make you anything you want.

If you are looking to piece together a partscaster, then Ebay is the place to start. Also, there are companies that make aftermarket bodies and necks (Musikraft, Warmoth).

Buy a Charvel model 6 and change out the pickups to your taste.

Correct, but my guess is just that a custom Charvel will be one hell of allot more expensive than a Luxxtone? I heard that the MIJ Charvels.. san dimas, play really well and can be snatched for around 800usd used.

Apples and oranges. One is a mass produced with lesser quality components and the other is hand made to spec. A better comparison would be a Custom Shop Charvel and Luxxtone...at that point it's a toss-up.

GMW will give you the most "bang-for-the buck" without a doubt...too bad you place form over function. I'm not in love with their headstocks either but I wouldn't let it be a deal breaker in getting all of the quality of a CS Charvel or Luxxtone at a much better price.

I just had a cream hardtail (perfect color) strathead that I traded for a Green Meanie strathead.
You can't go wrong with a GMW.
The Charvel Sand Dimas stuff is very cool as well

You might consider Carvin. They do shred well and have the reverse headstock like you mention. Another option would be to build one through Warmoth.

My favorite one, Chad :D

Have a Cobra S on order for May (or early June) delivery

I remember selling my MIJ san dimas for 600 or 650$ last year! They can def be had for decent prices if you find one at the right time. Not so sure about cream body though.. white body you could get but not cream. At that point custom shop or the internet is your best bet. You could always try to find a builder who will put together a body for you and then you buy the neck from warmoth seperately. My only gripe with Charvel now, is that they need more rosewood and ebony fretboard models. that's what i'm after...

What are your specs for the Cobra? I will post a new TAG day by tomorrow or Saturday. Be on the lookout.

Luxxtone all the way. Shark, Rob and Jerry are on this board and their guitars rule.

Nice :D

Cobra S (Mahogany/Maple 24.75 scale)
Natural black w/"binding"
Reverse headstock (black)
Natural colored back
Even taper +.05 (Mahogany?Rosewood)
Jumbos
H2+/H1-
Chrome Vintage Trem/Locking tuners
Creme Rings and switch tip

Really looking forward to this one...my arthritis/tendonitis/carpal tunnel, really sucks these days, and I'm hoping the shorter scale will help a bit

I have a Luxxtone and a GMW. Both are incredible guitars.
