Help! Does this product exist?

Is there a product available that you can use to effectively give your amp a series FX loop? I know the new Bad Cat Unleash has a feature that allows you to place a FX loop between your amp's speaker output and your cabinet's input. However, I don't need the attenuator and power amp built into the Unleash, so am hoping there is some other product on the market that has just the FX loop function but at a significantly lower price point than the $400 Unleash.

Note that I am not asking about installing a loop into a head. I am looking for an external device that somehow provides you with a FX loop.

Anything? :confused:
 
Of course you can put a "loop" between your guitar and amp input
I don't see a way of actually going between the preamp and power section of an amp, unless you install an actual loop

No, no, Dave. I am looking for a way to insert a series FX loop between an amp head and the speaker cabinet. Not between the guitar and amp input.

In other words, at minimum, I want the FX loop to be post pre-amp.

No. You can't get fx between your head and cab without providing a proper load for the amp, then re-amping the signal post fx.

Looks like I might just have to go with the Bad Cat Unleash after all. $400. OUCH. :lol: :LOL:
 
I did look at Radial, Palmer and Effects websites and didn't find anything. Maybe there's an obscure company that offers it...
 
I'm guessing you don't have a "line/direct out". I was thinking Suhr has a box that gave you a loop. Otherwise a load box like ThD and use the line out but then you would need another amp to run effects into. Giving you a Parallel loop or wet/Dry setup :doh:
 
Yeah options for a W/D are a plenty, but oddly nobody does what Rob's looking for besides Bad Cat it seems

Why would you want it post-power instead of between pre and post?
 
I think he just doesn't want to modify the amp, but I'd think there would be a bit of a difference in tone between adding reverb/delay after the preamp but before the poweramp vs. after everything, particularly if the power section is running really hot.
 
That sounds tricky. You have to attenuate the signal so that you don't blow up your pedals. Then, you have to re-amplify the signal after the effects so that it can drive your cab, without going back into your amp. That means the unit will need its own power amp.

You got it! The amp already has a parallel loop, but I want a series loop. If I could avoid modding the amp, that would be my preference. I might end up doing it though, as the Bad Cat Unleash is a lot of dough and I agree that there has to be some tonal difference between having a loop pre- and post-power section.
 
You say your amp has a parallel loop? Does it have a mix control? If so, turn it to 100% fx. 0% dry. Bingo: series loop.
 
If it has a parallel loop but doesn't have 100% wet you should be able to mod it and have it totally reversible. If you want it post head pre cab though you will also need another power amp. That is not an easy way to do it.
 
Had a friend with a Soldano Decatone who didn't like Parallel loops either. He told me 100% mix, even if in theory serial, just wasn't the same. He got a simple mod done to it and liked it tons better after.
 
What kind of amp? I had a Mesa that was a parallel loop and changing it to series involved swapping one or two wires around. Took about 3 minutes once the amp was opened up. I swapped it back before I sold it.
