I need input from you guys: my EVH 5150 III head started whistling with a siren like noise that just got progressively worse and worse.
I isolated the problem to one of 2 speaker jacks on the head. so I switched to the other speaker jack and the amp works again.
Now, what do you guys think could be done to fix the other speaker jack? what could be causing this jack to go bad? I do need both jacks to work since i do run 2 cabs with this head.
Thanks in advance,

I think the jacks are a symptom, not the problem. Without a schematic I couldn't say for certain where your issue lies.

So this problem exists on that one jack, and presents itself every time you attempt to use it?

We need more information on the issue you're experienceng.

How long has it been doing this? Do any of the front panel controls affect the volume, pitch, or characteristic of the siren noise?

Yeah prob the jack

Why would a faulty jack present itself with what is otherwise a telltale sign of oscillation?

On second thought, what he might he encountering is improper speaker jack ground reference. Perhaps checking the jack nut and making sure it's properly tightened first.

I think there was a known issue with one of the jacks touching something inside. I could be wrong or making it up but I swear I read this on TGP mega thread. Easy fix I think.

the problem only occurs when I'm plugging into this speaker jack.
The noise is oscillation like, just an endless feedback, siren like feedback.
I did tighten up the jack. the noise does not affect the volume or tone, it's just a massive pile of screaming feedback.

I hesistate to say it's a loose ground on the output jack, because that typically presents itself in very loud hum, but I suppose its possible for it to oscillate in that fashion. Like it was already mentioned, it could be that when you insert the cable, the tip contact on the jack is pushed outward enough to make unwanted electrical contact with another part of the circuit.
