A lot of you guys share a similar super heavy chugging style which I hadn't paid a lot of
attention to until recently. Been checking out some of the bands mentioned in various
threads and I'll be digging something a lot until the growling vocals come in.

While I admire what goes into that singing style I don't enjoy listening to it at all.

Can anyone suggest some bands that play the super aggressive and brutal rhythms
without that style of singing?

Thanks.

Sons of Texas (big Pantera vibe)

I dig this vibe...(killer rhythm section)

Trivium... they go back and forth between screams and singing.. but most times it suits the songs. "What the dead men say" good example of more recent stuff.

I don't listen to any Nu Metal or similar genres..... so above may not be brutal enough for ya. Cheers

I'm with you Donnie. I think I would listen to a lot more Death Metal if the growled vocals were broken up more. Killswitch Engage (MetalCore) is a happy medium for me the rhythm guitars are brutal. Howard's (and Jesse's) clean vocal is really good. Jesse was the original and now current vocalist. I like both vocalists equally.

Howard

Jesse

They have one of my favorite guitar tones too - of the 'modern' era.

Then there is Slipknot

Killer comeback album from a great thrash band from the early 90’s. And no ghey overly melodic clean vocals.

Nevermore
I don't really like the growling style much either , I can stomach it in small doses but tha'ts about it.
Nevermore's vocalist has a somewhat unique style , people either seem to love it or hate it
but there's no debate how good they are instrumentally, one of my all time favorite bands to jam to

Evergrey
Fear Factory
Primal Fear
Xentrix
Evile
Havok
Machine Head
Revocation, (a little cookie monster-ish, but kicks ass)
Warbringer

i say skip over all the bullshit and go right to the real stuff with indecipherable gutteral septic gurgles, they just become like another instrument. how could you not love singing along to this??

Can you give some examples of some bands with the chugging and riffs you like with growls?

As far as SYL goes, I've been a Devin Townsend fan ever since the Vai album.
This shit I hate though.

It’s got a lovely melody! It sounds like pigs being fed into a wood chipper.
