Funny, I don't like the real CE2.

I prefer a good buffer over true bypass any day of the week. True bypass is over rated.

The CMATMODS is too bright and harsh at times. My least favorite.

Love the Jacques Meistersinger cause it has an amazing bypass, complexity transparent, works with gain.

Catalinbread Castillo is amazing and has thickness control ro adjust for gain.

Mad Professor Electric Blue is designed for gain and is subtle but it is digital.

Analogman mini chorus with thickness toggle and mix blend rocks.b

The Meistersinger is a great analog pedal and does seem to have a nice bypass. After the dls chorus/vibe, I am pretty much done with digital chorus pedals.

As for true bypass versus buffer, for me I wish all pedals had a buffer or true bypass that you could switch between. Too many buffers is not good, same with too many true bypass pedals.

Good words my friend.

I agree about digital. Digital delay or analog sounding digital delay is cool, but digital chorus never sounds as natural as analog chorus.
Something about digital detune that just sounds odd.

My favorites..are the MXR Analog chorus, Jacques Meistersinger, Catalinbread Callisto and I know I am forgetting one.

I love that the Meistersinger is so transparent in that it does not alter much your tone in terms of EQ and doesn't impart a huge imprint of its own. It really takes a modern version of the fatter CE2 type chorus but allows one to make it nice and subtle with use of the level and depth. Brilliant chorus for clean and overdrive. Live the MXR as well.

Lots of guys tend to go for there transparent CH-1 style chorus for use with gain but I find it one dimensional. I would rather have a fatter chorus that is designed well enough that you can either thin it out a bit for use with distortion or use the level or blend to get the right mix.

Pedals like the Catalinbread Castillo and Earthquaker Devices Sea Machine, plus the VFE Choral Reef have additional controls to adjust the thickness of the chorus. You can adjust for a fatter or thicker chorus for clean and adjust it more open and airy for use with distortion.

Even though I always end up back with analog chorus over digital because I always find it more natural, as if it belongs....like an extension of my tube amps. The Meistersinger does this very well. On the delay side, the Duncan Vapor Trail is the nicest analog delay pedal I have found to date that is similar in the way it sounds so incredibly natural and organic, like it belongs. Like an extension of my tube amps.

Anyway, one exception I have found is the Mad Professor Electric Blue chorus pedal. They claim this pedal was specifically designed to work well with gain. I am surprised it is analog sounding digital.
It is very good although I still find analog the more natural fit with my amps.

Thoughts?

Holy Snapper Lips Batman !!! When did this thread come back???

I bought a CE2 and an Ibanez CS-9... I used the CE2 for dirt tones and the CS-9 for cleans... just worked out that way at the time.

Now I am using a brand new Boss CH-1 Super chorus for dirt tones and a Keely-Jizz Foam Chorus for cleans...

I love them!!! The "Keely Jizz-Foam" is just that !!!

Can be really subtle or really thick, no brianer to dial in - Not Analog but I could care less after owning it

. Jaques MEISTERSINGER

Have 2 and one on each pedal board, does so many chorus sounds you are likely looking for.
