Help me find a badass practice amp (small)

Looking to find a badass practice amp, it needs to be no bigger than a 1x12 combo and no more than $400.
As you know I do a lot of Tool covers so it needs to have a good grind to it.
Tubes or solid state is fine
 
I picked up a orange crush 35ldx and it's not really cutting it lol
 
I haven't seen or read much on it, but the new Ibanez IL15 amp seems pretty good. Other then that ones I've seen a lot of and like are the Randall RD series combos, 5 & 1 watt for below 400 and the Randall RG series, the little RG13 pedal/amp and the RG80, although not much of a small practice amp in watts, but it is a 1x12. I've also seen tons of praise for the Roland cubes.

Those are just my inexperienced opinions and thoughts lol.
 
I'm a fan of the Peavey gear. The Bandit 112 has a really good reputation:

If you don't need it to be mobile, then probably an act of futility. Preamp on the VH4 is so good, it will still out do all the little amps at low volume.
 
It needs to be small so I can move it around.
The vh4 is up on the 3rd floor, the idea of the practice amp is to practice in the living room on the first floor on the couch.
I learned some new Tool on the orange crush 35.
I may just keep it, sounds decent enough I guess lol.

Hard to beat for on the couch practice amp. It is the best little a have ever tried.

I'm going to sound like a total snob, but it's the truth - get a Fender 57 Champ or a EC Vibro Champ. They sound AMAZING. If you have the kind of money to allocate towards a small amp of this size, definitely check one out. The cranked tones are so amazing. I do not use that word lightly. They sound AMAZING.

Strat or SG - it doesn't matter. That's a serious amp. There isn't a bad sound on the dial. Anyways ...

By the way, I'm not on the Peavey dole for this. I've bought all my Peavey gear. I was really on the fence about getting the Bandit 112. It has a nice feature list. It's two channel with independent EQ's. There are voicing switches that provide a simple "modeling" capability. It also has a damping switch if you like controlling that sort of thing. It will run 80 watts into its internal 112 speaker. It has a power level switch that can knock that down to 40, or even 20 watts for playing at home. Adding an external speaker can bring the output up to 100 watts if you need it. I almost bought the Bandit, but I wanted a 115 combo, so I have the Peavey Delta Blues 115. The Delta Blues 115 has a nice sound and decent features, but it's less flexible than the Bandit. I'm down in that niche, so it works for me.
 
If you're willing to go used I can say the Peavey XXX 1x12 combos are pretty stout. I've used the Super 40 for practice for like 2 years and usually drown everything out. Pretty heavy though. I've also heard a Valveking with a speaker swap is pretty good as well.
 
I'm selling my Mesa Stiletto Ace 1x12 w/100 watt Scumback M75 for $800, if you're anywhere near DE? Has served me well for 5 yrs. Footswitch, cover, and extra quad of new winged C's. It's a heavy combo though...
