Bullshit detector just went off - in the late 80s, there was no such thing as a custom Charvel - they were all imports. Some DID have chrome hardware, but I don't recall the single pickup ones.

Have him send a pic of the neck pocket - if it's a Charvel there should be something stamped in there like 'model 2' or somesuch. All of the USA C/J's I had were scribbled on in the neck pocket, on the neck and most of them in the trem cavity - usually with a serial number or some sort of ID. I think it's kinda moot, as he's been full of shit on a lot of issues. Oh, and the 'charvel san dimas humbucker?' - as pictured it doesn't look like it has adjustable polepieces. All the USA pickups in the Charvels that I can recall had adjustable polepieces, any that didn't had the jackson plastic covers (kinda like EMGs). If it had Jackson covers, it was NOT a san dimas humbucker - it's from an import.

This guy is either way confused or an idiot scammer.

damn...how many times was that listed with a different date?

Seller is uninformed or trying to add a little value to it by creating a bs story behind it.

The neck plate is a big strike. They did make some Japanese strathead charvels in the 90s, but the ones I remember had big logos - I believe they were 3/3 headstocks though, not 6 inline on the logo.

All the strathead charvels I can remember had skunk stripes too. If this was an '88, it's not a japanese built released in the USA model.
I don't think you are correct about that, man. These were USA models that had a funky strat-like headstock made in the 90s, but I don't believe there were any actual strat heads that came out of Japan, and certainly no actual strat heads with six inline logos. Those American made funky almost strat heads had three on a side logos which always differentiated American made from the Model series, etc. made in Japan. Perhaps I'll be proved wrong, but I've never seen a Japanese legit strat head, or any strat head with a six inline logo. It's certainly odd though because only an idiot would put that six inline logo on a strat head. You'd want the three on a side to pass it off as a USA model...

Yeah, should have an import Charvel neck plate as well...

Steve

What is the general opinion of the FUNKY headstock USA models? I found one for $550 that I may jump on but don't know too much about these? are they worth 550? minues the weird headstock shape, I really dig the guitar

Great guitars. That said, this one looks to have been "de-floyded"...I wouldn't be shelling out $550 for it.

for a litle more you can buy a use d Pro Mod...550 is too steep for that one imho

Plus I don't recall the birdseye necks being on solid colors - the ones I had were flame tops or I remember Koa ones too with the birdseye. I don't recall floyds on solid colors either. I think it's a mutt anyways. If you can find one of the strats for $500ish, it's a good deal in my opinion - you're getting a USA jackson bolton, basically. Same guys, same factory. Just a vaguely funky headstock. :)

I still would like to see a legit Charvel strat head with a six inline headstock. Anybody got a pic/link?

Steve
