So, some friends have asked me to sit in with their band for a night because their regular axe slinger is unavailable. I like the material, but 35 songs is a lot to learn in 3 weeks.

I would prefer to quickly pick up the main riffs and hooks from tabs, if at all possible, as opposed to hitting the CD player and figuring it all out on my own.

As such, is there any GOOD site or online subscription service where you can access a LARGE library of QUALITY guitar tabs? I'm thinking the quality you would see in Guitar World or Hal Leonard books, NOT what you see your neighbour's kid posting up on some of the sites online.

Anybody know of such a site?

Thx! :rawk:

Rob, Do you have Guitar Pro, I just downloaded Highway to Hell, it's right on the money.

If you're willing to pay...
http://www.unitedwetab.com/
or
http://www.sheetmusicdirect.com

I've found really good tabs on these sites when I gotta learn something quick. On par with GW and are done on quality staff with time sig, regular notation, etc. unlike the most of the stuff on Ultimate Guitar

I don't have the patience to sift through the Ultimate Guitar site for decent ones. Most are just downright awful.

Power Tab. It's free and a lot of the tabs will get you in the ballpark for the most part.

I did this same thing two years ago and it was a bitch to learn so many tunes for one gig.

buy the books off of amazon - quick reference material and if you're going to pay for anything pay for the real deal. Most books have both tablature and music notes. It is what i did when i wanted to learn alot of ozzy material that had both piano and guitar related pieces i needed to learn for my cover band. CD player is great for filling in the little parts by ear that are more cumbersome to learn by tablature or music scores.

I do not recommend ultimate guitar - the site is plagued with spam/viruses/malware/adware and most tab programs are a pain in the ass to use. I would rather tune to a cd player and learn it by ear.

Hi Eddie:

No, I have not subscribed to the site yet, so when I pull up Highway To Hell, this is what I see:

http://tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/a/ac_dc ... ar_pro.htm

You first have to purchase Guitar Pro http://www.guitar-pro.com/en/index.php and then you can download the song on Ultimate Guitar. I'm not saying they are all dead on the money, but for the most part they are.

This site also has some decent videos http://www.vanderbilly.com/

Forget buying Guitar Pro, just download TuxGuitar, go to 911tabs.com (which has links to all the major tab sites) look for the band / song and find the highest reviewed one.

Thanks for all of the responses, Gents. I have lots to look into!

I use both Guitar Pro and Power Tab/Tab View (mac). They're both great. They allow you to open the (usually) much better transcriptions found on sites like Ultimate Guitar. Think of them as something like Microsoft Word or Excel....they allow you to open and work with documents...including writing your own tab. There is no need to subscribe to Ultimate Guitar's "premium" services in order to download tab written in Guitar Pro and Power Tab from Ultimate Guitar. You can try their "premium" services. But I personally didn't find it any more useful than what was already offered for free on the site.

Guitar Pro also has an iPad app which has been extremely useful to me, as a guitar teacher.

I've used You Tube to learn some stuff...

this.

although most people's youtube covers/lessons are as bad as or worse than the bad tabs you've seen...

This! Great resource for what you are looking for. Some tabs in GP are weak but many a great and get you going in the right direction. Being using it for years for the same reasons.
