Anybody have any recommendations as to where to find an EL34 tube that will handle the plate voltages on an early 80's JCM 800 2204? She kicks out over 460 volts across the plates, and I am having a hard time finding tubes that can handle this.

Thanks!

JJ's,SED's I have had 0 problems with them and higher voltage

Thanks, Jason. Which models specifically?

Also, have you actually run them in an amp with that obnoxious of a plate voltage?

I ran JJ34Ls in both the Seminar head wich I believe was around 480,give or take a couple volts and the Mods 100/50 and RT 250 of which are around 500,and I ran them pretty hot :D But also ran GT EL34Ms and the TS EL34b I believe all with great results.

Ruby EL34BHTs. I think they can handle over 500plate volts.

SED's and Ruby EL34bstr's will be fine. JJ's should be fine too.

My SL runs 500+ volts and I've used SED's and Groove Tubes with them. Seems to work just fine.

I just put some JJ E34L's in my seminar head - I think they sound great!

I can run EH6CA7's in my Chadwick II, which is a 6L6/5881 amp. (No bias switch for tube types, either...) I don't know how they stack up against EL34's, but they get it more in the Marshally ballpark than the 5881's and take the higher plate voltage just fine.

My head just ate up and destroyed 2 pairs of Groove Tubes E34Ls.....hence the question! Clearly, the GT's can't handle plate voltages over 460.....

Thanks for all of the responses!

Anybody else have similar experiences with these particular tubes?

I've used the GT-E34L's & the SED Winged C's in a head that runs at 500 with no problems at all.
The Ruby EL34BSTR's & EL34BHT's are the same tube except the BHT's can handle higher plate voltage.

Maybe your bias is too hot & and your cookin em?

Keep in mind the volt rating for the screens. Most current production tubes only handle 450vdc on the screens.

On a Marshall the screen voltage is very close to the plate voltage, so in most cases you'll be running higher than 450vdc on the screens. At that point, you're exceeding the screen voltage rating for most newer tubes.

The SED Winged C EL34s will handle 500vdc on the screens, so i would recommend those for your amp  They're the only EL34s i will use in my customer's amps now, since everything else seems to fail/blow up too quick.

Ruby EL34BHT....they are tested at 600vdc on the plates

I have a 2204 that runs about 460. I've use EH, JJel34b, and the SED winged C el34. I had problems with the EH. I think the winged c sounds the best.

I've got JJ's in my Friedman modded 100w Metro w/kitchen sink mods. No issues. They are tested by ARS, as that's where Dave gets his tubes.

SED =C= EL34s. I use them in a couple of amps that has a higher plate voltage than that. :) Best EL34 tube IMHO out on the market! :)

This is a fantastic point. My head is running at over 470 on the screens as well. This is more likely my problem, as opposed to the plate voltages.....

I'll give the SED Winged C EL34s a try. Thanks!
