I really like this pedal but I'm noticing that when I use distortion the synth effect becomes too loud and overbearing. What I would like to do is have the sustained notes be clean on the EHX while my normal guitar chain has distortion on it, this way I play leads and things over the soft pad sound. My distortion comes from my amp, just for your info.

Also I would like to add phaser and delay and things ONLY to the ehx, I understand that this can be done with the build in fx loop on the pedal, but I am wondering, does whatever is in the loop degrade the guitar chain? I'd like to use my pod x3 live for modulation applied only to the ehx but the pod is not something that I wan't my guitar's signal to run through all the time.

Does it help if you turn the "Effect" knob down? How much gain are you trying to use?

You don't have to worry about the POD in the effects loop

You need to run it in the loop or get a splitter and run it to another amp or mixer. In front of the distortion is just going to sound muddy. Or you can run into the amps clean channel if it has one and put a distortion or fuzz before the ego.
